Random thoughts on successful blogging
by Crystal Paine
I don't consider myself to be a successful blogger, far from it. But I have learned a few things over the past months and am often asked for ideas and help in the area of blogging. So, I was writing these up for the home business class I am teaching and thought I would post them here as well.
Disclaimer: I don't necessarily follow these, just because I'm not one that likes to subject myself to other's "rules" in these types of things. None of these are original thoughts, mostly things I've learned from observation of more experienced bloggers or read in Blog.
1. Read Blog by Hugh Hewitt.
2. Link, link, link. Link in your sidebar and link in your posts. Have a "blogs that link here" list in your sidebar and encourage reciprocal linking. As an aside, let me know if you link to me and I'll be glad to add your link to my list provided it is appropriate.
3. Have a targeted subject. (I don't do a good job of following this one, I'm way too eclectic. Maybe I should re-name my blog "The Eclectic Blog"?)
4. Update regularly.
5. Provide helpful, interesting content. At least occasionally write about "hot" topics or current events. Search the top ten list on Technorati to find out what's being blogged about most. If you have good content, once people find you, they will want to stick around and become regular readers.
