Bread Machines

"Do you use the bread machine because a) it's healthier; b) it's fun; c) it's cheaper; d) you like the aroma in your house; e) other? -Anonymous"

Can I pick more than one answer? I use the bread machine because we prefer homemade bread and I don't always have time to make it from scratch! We do buy store-bought bread for sandwiches, but my husband and I both prefer homemade bread for eating. I love the aroma, it's so fulfilling to made homemade bread, it is sometimes cheaper, and it is definitely healthier

For Martha and anyone else interested, here is the quick and easy 7-Grain Bread recipe:

3/4 cup and 2 T. water
2 T. butter
2 1/3 cups flour (whole-wheat and/or white)
1/4 cup 7-grain cereal
1 1/2 t. salt
2 1/2 t. yeast

Bake on whole wheat setting.

How easy is that?? That's why I love the bread machine. I can "make" bread in about 2 minutes or less.

I love having a bread machiine! I use it to knead any kind of dough (pizza crust, challah, unleavened bread, crackers, cinnamon rolls...) and of course for regular bread :) I think it saves so much time, even if you only ever use the dough cycle! And after you're used to homemade bread, the store bread seems flimsy :D

Crystal, do have the book, "The New Complete Book of Breads" by Bernard Clayton, Jr? I would HIGHLY reccommend this book to you. My husband got this book for me for Christmas last year. Every single recipe I have tried out of this book works beautifully. And we love many of the recipes for sandwhiches. One reason I love this book so much is that Bernard Clayton takes the mystery out of breadmaking. It is really an awesome book. I think it is a must have for a girl that wants to seriously make bread. :-)

Sorry to be thick but why is a bread machine healthier? Is it because the dough is handled less?
My favourite bread book (published before bread machine days) is Elizabeth David's book on English bread and yeast cookery. It is a great read and gives loads of historical backgound as well as recipes.

Annaelisabeth,

I was just saying that a bread machine was a healthier route than storebought bread-- not traditional homemade bread. Sorry for the confusion. :) I prefer tomake homemade bread without the bread machine, but I don't always have time.
