Big Government and Katrina
Since our discussion on welfare, I've received some emails regarding the government's response to Katrina. I have a lot of thoughts on this issue and most of you will probably disagree, but read my husband's post: How Should the Government Respond?

Hi everyone. What really irks me about Big Brother's role in all this, is the blatent lack of equality suffered by those having to endure government policy and bureaucratic red tape.
There are people in Michigan who need help as much as any hurricane victims. Many people here are struggling to get into even subsidized apartments, while thousands of refugees get apartments and debit cards.
The reality is, many folks in New Orleans were victims of the welfare state, and the terrorism inflicted by so-called "helping" authorities. They had learned to sit and wait for nothing. Nothing, being the supposed aid that Uncle Sam promised them.
Bush's speech was a nice promise, typical of those made by most politicians. It seemed to be "too good to be true." Such promises are nice blooming plants, but no fruit comes out of them. New Orleans will cost all of us. We already pay for it at the pump, will be at the grocery store, and as a people. Rebuilding it will prove to be an economic disaster for the pocket books of taxpayers.
I think of the young fellow who stole a school bus and got people out before disaster struck. He had no government funding to do it. No grants, no agencies, no ADC, FIA, HUD. Just common-sense. Yet, this is something that FEMA and the gang lack, common-sense. And that killed hundreds of people. People will continue to die too, if they keep waiting on big government to rescue them. Nothing lasts forever. Not hand-outs or a city built below sea-level.
