Random Question of the Day: Human Authority
I read this earlier in Home-Making:
"No human authority is ever binding when it bids us break a divine law."
Do you agree or disagree?

I could see that tearing off and being interpreted in some very dangerous ways
We have talked about this here before haven't we? It was in reference to if you husband asks you to sin, do you obey him or God? Most people said your husband unless it breaks a law that could get you in legal trouble.
I say if you live right and follow God you won't be put in a situation where you'll have to choose. Those cases are very few and far between.
This quote isn't just talking about marriage (at least it didn't to me) and enough has been said about that so I won't go into it here. The Bible commands us to obey the government and even to pay taxes, but what about countries where Christians are forbidden to worship Christ? They are 'going against human authority so that they don't break divine law' in order to folow Christ. The Bible commands us to follow the laws of the land but not when they break God's law. Another example is forced abortion like they have in China (for population control-each family is only allowed 1 child).
Here in America we don't often have to make that kind of a choice but the way things are going it might soon come to that.

I agree. We are ultimately accountable to God. All other authorities are to be obeyed (and, I would argue, are legitimate) only as they rule as God requires: under His law.
I realize that there are many situations we could get into, but this is the basic priciple as I understand it.

I have to agree for the most part.
We ought to obey God rather than man. FOr the most part, we don't have to disobey the law or government. At least not right now.
