O Give Thanks

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year! I love the Fall weather, time with family, Jesse's time off of work and school before the finals rush hits, the time to reflect on the blessings the Lord has given us over the past year, and yes, I even enjoy the food.
What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? What special Thanksgiving traditions does your family have? What are you serving for your Thanksgiving meal? Most importantly, what are you especially thanking the Lord for this year? What "great and mighty things" has He done in your life and the life of your family?

this year, we are having our first thanksgiving by ourselves since we've moved to texas away from family and friends. we will miss our families, but i'm looking forward to a peaceful day without having to rush around to different celebrations!
this year, God has done everything from provide jeremy with a new job which he loves. we experienced the birth of our son, reagan, which was an incredible experience! two days after reagan born, jeremy was approached with a promotion to asst. manager and a move to texas - we prayed and knew that it was God's will, so when reagan was one month old packed everything and left.
along with moving, we had to sell our (mobile) home, and God provided a buy ONE DAY before we were moving out of the house. it was amazing!
since we are only cooking for ourselves this year, our menu includes roasted lamb; basil romano mashed potatoes; carrots with raisins, dried cranberries, and honey; some sort of buttery roll, and apple cake with cream cheese frosting. yum!!
Every Thanksgiving my husband and I have shared together has been different. Our first year, his work gave us a turkey so we just had to fix up the side dishes. It was just the two of us.
Our second Thanksgiving, my dad travelled from Tennessee (we were in S.C) to spend it with us, so we celebrated our daughter's 1st birthday a week early so he could be there for it. Since we had company, we went allllllll out -- especially because it was supposed to be my dad, his girlfriend, my sister, and her boyfriend too. Course, then we had to eat up alllll those leftovers from a meal made for 7, which was actually for 4. lol
We didn't think we'd have much of a Thanksgiving this year. Just couldn't afford to. My dad was gonna come, but can't make it afterall. Being a trucker, he'll be on the road. Since we couldn't afford anything, we weren't planning anything special. The Lord had other plans, however. Praise God! He's blessed my husband with extra hours, plus an hour or two of overtime last week, so we're able to have a meal afterall. We just ordered a meal from the deli at the store my husband works at -- mostly so no one has to cook, since hubby has to work that day anyway ... and partly because we weren't sure how much extra we'd have in our budget, so it was cheaper to go this route. We'll be having turkey, gravy, sweet potato casserole, rolls, pie (dunno what kind yet, either pumpkin or apple), mashed potatoes, and corn casserole. Pretty nice meal, praise be to God, for a small family who didn't think they'd have anything special! :-)
Working 2-10pm at Cracker Barrel. Serving people that don't want to cook I suspose. My parents and my son will be at the beach celebrating. I have not decided if I will eat a Thanksgiving meal. Kinda stupid to make a big meal for yourself, but nonetheless it would feel wrong to do nothing.
We will be having thanksgiving with my husband's family at their home. His father has a severe form of MS and is completely bedridden, so we will be their helping her get ready for the family. I have so many things I could write to be thankful for and have been writing on my blog. I am so thankful for the LORD's daily provision for us. He truly "loves and cares for His own" as the old hymn says. Praise be to him.
Ash, Sorry you have to work on Thanksgiving . This is the first holiday season that I and my mom will have every holiday off. (We are both nurses.)Usually we would try to take a night shift or off shift and we would be half asleep making the meals. Atleast the pay was good. We both have quite our jobs for now and are taking a much needed break from nursing.
