Pride and Prejudice
Has anyone here seen the new Pride and Prejudice movie? If so, what did you think of it?Anyone who knows me well, knows that I enjoy movies -- good movies, that is. There is an abundance of filth out there and my husband and I are terribly particular as to what we will bring in our home and play on our "black box." I enjoyed the 1995 Pride and Prejudice movie series but I have heard mixed reviews on this one and would love to hear from those of you who have seen it.
We watched The League of Grateful Sons last night for the first time. A thorough review will be forthcoming. It was excellent.

Pride and Prejudice
We just watched the League of Grateful Sons for the first time last night, as well!
I look forward to reading your review.
I bet this is one thing we can all agree on -- I looooooove Jane Austen!
I hope to see it soon. :-D
I posted this link on my blog a couple days ago...Worldmagblog's post and readers' comments about the merits and problems with the various versions of P&P.

I plan to see the new one next week when it comes out, and decide for myself! I can't imagine, however, that it will be better than the A&E version.
hmm...it cut off the end of the address I gave!:op
The ending is "html"
I am looking forward to your review. My oldest son saw this in the Vision Forum catalog. He said we should get it and watch it. So it would be great if you can tell us what age this movie would be appropriate for and also the sensitivity factor.
Blessings!

C.A. Worcester - Thanks for the link! It was one of the better reviews of this movie that I have read.
However, according to the article, I fall into the third catagory, a Janeite. I wasn't named after the main character for nothing, you know. ;-).
Although I haven't had a chance to see it (and probably won't till it comes out on DVD - I AM in the boondocks of upstate New York after all, and it has a limited release), from what I've read, I'm already disappointed. I don't like Kiera Knightly in this role at all (not enough substance and complexity) and the hairstyles and dress are absolutely terrible.
Unfortunately, nothing will be able to surmount the incredible performance of Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in the A & E version. The dialog is superb, from book standards, and the costumes and hairstyles are absolutely stunning. (Take a close look at Jane's beautifully coiled braids at Aunt Phillip's and Lizzy gorgeous gown for the Netherfield Ball).
One of my favorite things to do in the world, is curl up with this movie and a cup of hot tea when my kids are napping and it's really cold out.
It also gives me excuses to work in such lines as "You don't know what I suffer! and "It behooves us all to take very careful thought before pronouncing an adverse judgement on any of our fellow men." in my everyday conversation. :-)
I agree, I was disappointed to see Keira Knitly in the role of Lizzie. She seems better for "Pirates of the Caribean." I am not a purist so I am able to appreciate a few changes here and there without calling the whole thing terrible. I enjoyed Sense and Sensibility even though it did stray from the book at some parts. The A&E P&P was so well done I don' think anything will ever compare but I will definately go see it if I can get a babysitter. I have read all of Austins books and will say that Persuasion was my favorite. The movie they did a few years back was excellent. If anyone missed it go get it at the library. Caution: On some of the covers of the movie they have actors who are not in the movie who are posing like they are on the cover of a harlequin romance novel. Though, I have seen some covers to the Persuasion movie that have the real actors in appropriate poses. I think when it came out they tried to sex it up because the actors are very plain in it. Pretty pathetic. L liked Persuasion the best because it was the last completed novel she wrote before she died. I think there is a lot of similarity between the character Ann and Jane, herself.
