Goal-setting for the New Year
Part of my job with The Old Schoolhouse Magazine is writing for their marketing blog, PRMama. One of my posts for Small Businesses was posted a few days ago on Goal-Setting for Your Business.
Not only do I believe goal-setting for businesses is essential to success, I also believe that setting goals in our personal life is very worthwhile. At the beginning of each year, I like to set goals for the coming year. I usually have a list of books I hope to read, projects I hope to complete, new skills I want to learn or master, and character qualities I want to work on in my life. Of course, I don't always achieve all of these goals, but it is helpful for me to have something to aim for at least!
What are your goals for this new year? I'm still working on my list (with my husband's help) but maybe I'll share it here when it is nearer completion!

I actually need to set myself some goals. I know that I want to be come a better homekeeper and to be better organized. This is important to me so that I can become a more Godly wife and mother. I have a few books I intend to read and to better my knitting, crochet and weaving skills.
That is just a start, but I know there is more to think about.
I've been thinking on this topic in earnest for the last week or so. I'm a firm believer in writing goals down. I'm going to try and be more specific this year. In years past I've been general and quickly gotten off target in the pursuit of my goals. Many of my goals this year will focus in the area of homeschooling and homemaking. I also want to check with my husband and see what goals he thinks I should work towards.
Glad you're back!
Hi Crystal, I don't know if this is the right place to post my comment, but your goals and this topic brought up a point I had regarding your takes on being a stay at home mother versus working mothers. From your website, your new position with The Homeschool Magazine as a Marketing Manager, and this blog, you seem to be driven to being business savvy and entreprenurial (apologize for spelling if incorrectly spelled). I'm not saying that it's bad or wrong, but I would like to know how much of the business Jesse does and how much you do. Also, how does this differ from mothers who work at an office? A mother who works at home is still a working mother. She still takes time away from her family to deal with the business matters and you still have to make sacrifices to meet the demands of the consumers. A business is a business, no matter what the product being sold is. Is this something you intend to continue as Kathryn gets older and you have more children? And when Jesse gets his own practice or professional job being a lawyer? I am only curious because I am researching whether or not I should start a home business when I have children or a family of my own rather than working from an office. But is staying home and working enough?
Crystal, one of my goals for this coming year is to become a better housekeeper. I'm seriously lacking in this area. *blush* For Christmas I got Candy's book on Home Management. I've started my binder! The outside makes me smile! You can check it out at my blog, www.reformedfarmerswife.blogspot.com . I'm so excited to have this new tool to help me become a better housekeeper!
meme, have you considered the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31? Here are just a few verses from this passage. Verse 13 says, "She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands." Verse 16 says, "She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard." Verse 18 says, "She perceiveth that her merchandise [is] good: her candle goeth not out by night." Verse 24 says, "She maketh fine linen, and selleth [it]; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant." The whole passage, verses 10-31, is wonderful! It describes what each each of us, as daughters of the King, should be striving for! I hope this is helpful to you as you continue to seek God's will for you in this area.
