On Scheduling and Organization

I'm listening to a very convicting CD by Susan Bradrick titled, Twenty-Four Hours is All You Get. I need to listen to it about two or three more times to get the full meaning and let it all sink in, but if you are struggling with organization or wanting more hours in your day, I would highly recommend this CD.

Anyone who reads this blog very regularly knows that abiding by a strict schedule is not something I seem to be able to do. Often, I seem to live more "on the fly." I have a basic routine that I follow for the day, but try as I might, I cannot seem to stick consistently to any schedule that I make. I have great plans and am not good with sticking to them.

But, I know that when I do stick to a schedule, I accomplish so much more. Why do I not stick to my schedule then? Well, I can come up with a hundred excuses, but I know that I need to just crack down and be more disciplined. I want to be on a schedule. And, more importantly, my husband wants me to be on a schedule. Having an orderly scheduled day honors him. Coming home to dinner on the table, an orderly home, and a cheerful wife honors him.

So, I'm making a public declaration that, by God's grace, I am determined to become more disciplined and scheduled this next year. Whether I feel like it or not, I know it is what I need to do. I know it is what God wants me to do.

I like what Candy says in her book, "Declare yourself organized and then live like it!"

I agree with you about this CD being convicting. I am in the middle of listening to it. Susan is so full of godly wisdom. Have you listened to her CD titled (?) Training our daughters to cherish being keepers at home. That is an excellent and very convicting talk. I would highly recommend it.
I am with you. Having illness in our home for the last 4 weeks has shown me greatly that we need to be on a schedule!

I'm with you Crystal. I have general routines right now but I want to be more scheduled in 2006. For me schedules are like diets, I know I feel better when I'm on one but I don't seem to stick with it every day. :) I'm hoping, by His grace, to make even more headway on this goal in the new year.

I think we have all the tapes that the Bradricks have made and they are very good, and yes, a real challenge!

Maybe I should order this CD! I am forever making lists and schedules but following them is another thing. I can look very organized on paper the night before and then the next day I let it all fall to pieces!

I just paused this CD to come and sit down for a moment! I have been listening to it in spurts this morning while washing dishes, supervising my little ones, helping to put snow clothes on, helping to take snow clothes OFF and just sat down for a quick break. It IS indeed excellent and was just the encouragment I needed this morning.
We are slowly developing a scheduled lifestyle and I would not want to live any other way!

I would also highly recommend Managers of Their Homes by Teri Maxwell.(www.titus2.com)It has been a true answer to prayer for me and a huge help. It goes beautifully with the CD by Mrs. Bradrick.

Well, I had better get back to business at hand!

So glad that others have heard this CD and are finding it as helpful and motivational as I!

I also second the recommendation of Managers of Their Homes. That's the type of schedule we always followed growing up and it definitely made us more efficient! Now, why can't I just do it myself??

I'll keep plugging away at becoming more disciplined!

I like schedules, but like I heard if you use Managers of their Homes that you have to schedule babies feedings when nursing. Is that true?
I have a nice little schedule I follow, but lately have had so many things to do that it has been messed up!

I have been having such a hard time with organization lately. George is really getting into everything. I spend my time disciplining him and picking up after him and trying to protect him from injuring himself.

This morning, after one hour of him being up, it looked like a monkey had gone through my house. I am scared to death about how my house will look in a few months after my second one arrives.

My back is killing me from picking up after him.

Just needed to vent!

Oh, my! How nice it is to know that I am not the only one who struggles with this.
Crystal, you commented on how your husband wants the schedule for you to. My husband does not seem to be bothered by my lack of orginization or schedule, but I feel convicted to change my ways. I recently read a book called Raising Maidens of Virtue, and although it doesn't specifically focus on organization, it does emphasize this to be helpful in being biblical women, wives and mothers. Reading this and Proverbs 31 has really impressed on me the need to change how I do things. For me as well as my husband and children.
I pray God provides me with the motivation to do this...well really He already has, but I am procrastinating.

I'd love to join you! I so desperately need to become more scheduled!

Martha A., Teri does schedule her breastfeeding babies but it is not essential to following her "method" of scheduling. Many women use the MOTH schedule and still nurse on demand. I'm not a scheduler by nature and have never scheduled my babies. As we impliment our schedule using the Maxwell's method, I'm sure I will continue to nurse each baby on demand for the first 4-6 months at least. I may then begin starting a simple schedule for the babies.
