Our Children are Sponges
Our children internalize the atmosphere of our homes based on the way we treat them and our spouses. Sponge-like, they absorb our home’s emotional atmosphere, which is conveyed through tone of voice, words of derision or encouragement, and the presence or absence of tangible affection. And when they become adults, they will remember, just as we do, what home was like.
We are learning just how much children are like sponges as recently Kathrynne has started mimicking our actions. It is absolutely adorable to observe, but it also makes us realize how important it is to be setting a good example for Kathrynne. We want to protect her little eyes and ears as much as is possible, we want to set before her a Godly role model through our lives. What an incredible responsibility we have before the Lord. Oh, that we would be faithful!

Oh, you got to read this book! I wondered if you had read it yet! I thought it was so good!
Agreeing whole-heartedly here!
My husband and I try to have a joyful, godly spirit in our homes at all times (ok, we fail sometimes, but who doesn't). My boys are testimony to the sponge-theory. In most groups of children, my boys are the 'odd balls'. They are the ones grinning, participating, using good manners, generally being FUN to have around. The only place where I feel like my boys 'fit in' is in their music class, where all the moms are on the same page as I and the children all act like mine.
I'm not saying my children are perfect, don't misunderstand me. However, my boys do reflect a joy-filled spirit that I assume they've picked up from home (ok, where else would they get it? They are always with us. LOL). Believe me, I've been on the receiving end of some nasty comments from other moms who think it's 'unfair' that I have two 'good kids'.
I pray my spirit remains joyful and that my children continue to absorb the life-giving spirit of our home. (Hopefully, they'll squeeze out and flush the occasional bad attitudes :-) ).
I find this too with little children, especially my nephew. It is a lot of fun, but also scary! You have inspired me to post a story about this on my blog, from the life of Robert E. Lee (reconted in "Call of Duty")
