More on Home Organization

Today was a wonderful day! It's amazing that when I take the time to make a schedule and to stick with it (for the most part!), I accomplish so much more!

For those who might be interested, here is my current schedule, which will be undergoing some tweaking in the next few weeks (well, probably the rest of my life, but here's the basic schedule anyway!). I almost feel badly posting this since I just created it, but maybe it can serve as a motivation to those of you who might be struggling in the area of organization. Plus, I know it will serve as a motivation for me if I have posted my schedule for all the world to see. :)

I did not schedule the evenings because that way I can be flexible to whatever Jesse wants to do. I also have quite a bit of cleaning and laundry time scheduled because I am rather behind in those departments right now as I have not had any set system in place since Kathrynne was born. My hope is that once I stay on a schedule, I will be able to cut back on claening and laundry time because there will not be as much to do.

Currently, my binder has the following in it:

-Cover page

-Plastic pocket page (where I have some extra paper and a little to do list that I stick in there for everyday)

-Master Schedule (in plastic sleeve so that I can use a dry erase marker to mark each thing off when I accomplish it-- I am a list person and I love ot check things off of lists!)

-Emergency Quick Clean (printed off from http://genuineprofit.lifewithchrist.org/permalink/10399)

-Before Bed Routine

-Daily Cleaning Projects (each day is on a separate page in a plastic sleeve)

-Business Work To Do This Week List (I am just jotting down stuff on there that needs to be accomplished and then going off of that list during my business work time)

-Extra Projects List (This is a running list I keep which I do during the extra project time slot)

-Weekly Menu Planner (I had already been using this before).

-Grocery List (I shop at two different stores, so this is divided for that).

That's what I have so far!

Just a couple of notes:

*We have started doing a few little things with Kathrynne everyday which we call her "school" so that's why it's on the schedule. We have a Bible memory book we read to her everyday and then catechism cards, and sometimes some finger plays and reading. She usually only lasts through the first two things, though. I plan to gradually work with her to help her have a longer attention span. So that by the time she is 2 or 3 she can sit for 30 minutes or so and do school. I helped teach my youngest brother this way. By the time he was four, he was reading, doing basic math, and had memorized probably 80-100 verses and catechism questions. When they are so little, their minds don't have a lot to cloud them so memorization comes much more easily (with a lot of repetition, of course).

**My Before Bed Routine says, "wash diapers" because we use Fuzzi Bunz diapers and so I wash them every night. We have only begun using these recently and we LOVE them (they are super easy and have saved us a lot of $$). I'll have to post more on my diapering system later, but I just wanted to clarify that.

Getting Organized

Well, after reading this post: http://genuineprofit.lifewithchrist.org/permalink/10399

I decided it was high time that I tried to get more organized. :)

I used to be quite organized. After starting a business and having a baby, my organization skills have been dwindling. Recently, I have been feeling like I have to do SOMETHING to get order back into my life or things are going to get completely out of control!

So, I was very thankful for the motivation of the above article. Jesse took care of Kathrynne this afternoon and I made up a master schedule and a a cleaning schedule, plus a menu planner and a before bed routine. I printed all of this out and put it in a binder in plastic page protectors so that I can use a dry-erase marker to check things off as I do them.

I may post these schedules, but first I have to implement them and see how it goes. :) I'm sure it will take some tweaking, but I am very determined, by God's grace, that I am going to have an orderly home and life. Order is pleasing to not only the Lord, but also my husband. Plus, it is a way to bless my family!
