Modest Maternity Patterns?

Do you know of any place where I can find modest maternity patterns, mainly for a skirt and jumper? I looked at Wal-mart and was not impressed with their selection. -Susan
Anyone have suggestions or links for Susan? Please share!

Susan,
I am in the same boat! I found a nice jumper pattern from The King's Daughters (http://www.modestsewingpatterns.com/ladies.html) There are a few variations. They don't make it in maternity sizes, but I emailed them and they said it would be very easy to modify with a higher waist and maybe a size or two larger.

my mom always had good luck with indpendent fabric stores. Being that I'm not a big clothes maker myself, I have no clue.

I have a very nice jumper pattern I bought from Simplicity awhile back. I never used it, and I am not sure if it is still available. It is Simplicity 9188.
I have found Walmart is not a good place to shop for patterns, but I have found some at second hand stores, or at JoAnn's. There is very few selection so sometimes your best option is to borrow patterns!
I also know Elizabeth Lee patterns are made to modify for Maternity.

Candle on the Hill http://www.candleonthehill.net/ has lots of modest patterns, and they're very cute too!

I know that common sense design has a maternity jumper that looks cute. I never have made it though, so I'm not sure how it looks made up. I can't remember which company sells their patterns, do a search on the internet and you can find them. Also, we sell some maternity patterns as well as nursing dress patterns at our website, www.newlittleblessing.com

I hope that helps you some!

I know a mom who made her own pattern using an old maternity skirt that she liked. She just traced the top part of the skirt (elastic band) onto paper and then traced the bottom part (the skirt part) onto a different piece of paper...and she had a modest, but cute pattern! She was able to make numerous skirts out of that one pattern. She told me that you can find that stretchy material (to use for the elastic part at the top of the skirt) at most fabric stores.

Catherine's Choice from New Little Blessing is a modest maternity pattern that can be used during and after pregnancy as it has a hidden nursing openings option.

Also, for fellow old fashioned dress lovers, the Regency Gown from Sense and Sensibility (www.sensibility.com) can easily be converted to a maternity dress by following the directions online (http://www.sensibility.com/pattern/alterations.htm) For modesty this neckline really does need a filler underneath. There is also a new bodice supplement with two new, higher necklines which solve that problem too :-) There is also a new pattern in the works for a wrap front regency gown.

Lastly,I just made McCall's pattern # 2693 which is a modest jumper that went together quite easily. The only problem was that it came out about 2 sizes too big!

Hope that helps a bit!

I have seen some very modest and cute outfits at Ross Department Stores - not sure how modest they are but worth a look if you have that store close by - it has been awhile since I was pregnant. ;O)

What about your local thrift stores...Good Will has a huge selection for $2.50 and they have half off days.

I apologize, this has nothing to do with maternity patterns. I had read your post on cloth diapering awhile back, and had a question. I saw you had the hanging diaper pail, so when we started cloth diapering a week or so ago, we ordered one. We were disappointed when we got it, though. We haven't used it yet, because it doesn't seem that the smell of poopy diapers would stay in! The top doesn't cinch shut like I thought. I was wondering, does it really work? Or should I put it back in the packaging and send it back. Please let me know your experience with this. :) You can email me at thezapfs AT gmail DOT com. Thanks!

Every time I have another blessing on the way, I go looking for a new pattern for a maternity jumper. I'm so optimistic. *grin* I've been disappointed six times, so far! What I've found that works for me is McCall's Stitch and Save pattern #9435. It's just a basic jumper with a slightly raised waist. I make it a little bigger than usual and it fits all the way through the pregnancy. I get lots of compliments on them and they are so comfortable. After the baby arrives, I make one with deeper arm holes to accomodate nursing. I've worn out several of these patterns! Hope this helps and congratulations on your new blessing!

On of my favorite maternity dresses came from Ross. It was not meant to be maternity, but was a light weight corduroy dress with buttons down the front and a high waist. It was comfortable and beautiful. I always got compliments on it!

Beth -- there is a special way for you to hang it on your door -- read the directions really carefully, it's rather hard to figure out the first time around. Once you get it, it will be simple. It really does do a good job of keeping the odors in -- at least from my experience. You wouldn't want to let dirty diapers sit in the bag for more than a few days or you might have a smell problem, but if you wash every day or every other day, it should work out just fine. You might also consider putting a few drops of lavendar or other oils on the little "towel tag" in the bag -- this will further help the smell.

Hi Crystal!

Sorry for chiming in late on this... I've contacted Susan via her site but wanted to let you and your readers here know also that I have some modest maternity dresses available. It's through my Pvrb 31 home business. ;-) I consider it a ministry though too and am willing to "dicker" on prices should someone be in desperate need. We are experiencing a very difficult financial time ourselves right now though...so please don't "dicker" unless you really, really need to. Ok, here's my link:

I also have some other modest maternity dresses that I have not listed yet. If someone wants to contact me via my site, I can arrange to send you pictures privately.

Blessings to you this day,
Tamara

I've enjoyed using McCalls # 9236 (a maternity jumper). It also has variations for a couple of dress styles. This pattern is out of print, but one might be able to find a copy on e-bay. I found it well worth it!
