Operation Love Language
Here's another really creative and beautiful contest entry I received. If you haven't submitted your idea for the Valentine's contest, please be sure to do so soon!
Dear Crystal,
Before I start, I just wanted to thank you for doing this contest. I have never really thought about Valentines day as anything more than a day for romantic love, but through your blog contest I realized it's a day to celebrate love in general- the love of a husband and wife, the love of family members for each other, the love of brothers and sisters in Christ and most importantly the sacrificial love of Christ. In past years I have spent Valentines day longing for a husband, but this year, through your suggestion, I have dedicated the day to serve those around me with love. Thank you so much for that shift of focus!
I don't expect to win, but I'm really excited about Valentines day! Here's my plan:
I'm calling it: Operation Love Language...
For my Daddy I am going to write him a bunch of notes telling him how much I appreciate his leadership, guidance and protection for our family. I'll place each note in strategic places- on the bathroom sink, in his lunchbox, in his car, ect. (His love language is Words of Affirmation)
For my Mom I am going to "give her the day off"- I'll do all of the cooking, all of the chores and take care of my little brother. All she'll have to do is relax, sip on some coffee and read books! : ) (her love language is Acts of Service)
For both my Mom and Dad, my sister and I are going to set up a nice dinner for them and then get out of the house with our brother for a few hours so they can be alone! (this is both romantic and VERY inexpensive ; )
For my sister Kayla, I'm going to get her three small gifts, wrap them up and leave them in places where she'll find them- on the computer desk, on her pillow and then I'll give her one later. (her love language is Gifts)
For my little brother Ethan, I'm going to spend time with him doing all the things he loves best- dancing, playing ball, playing with playdough, going outside (he's 2). (his love language- that we've noticed so far- is Quality Time)
For both my siblings I am going to take them out to dinner- while mom and dad are on their "date" and then go to a bookstore and read some books with Ethan and let Kayla browse.
One of our neighbors is a widow and she was deeply in love with her husband when he died of cancer, just four or so years ago. She doesn't know Christ but she's knows about Him. Kayla and I thought we'd sneak over a box of homemade cookies and a single rose with a note saying, "Jesus loves you and so do we! Happy Valentines Day. John 3:16 " and then sign it "Your Secret Friends."
I'm so excited about this Valentines Day! Thank you so much Crystal! May God richly bless you and your family!
In Christ's love,
Amanda C.Stay-at-home daughter and sister (20 y.o.)

Sitting here with tears running down my face :-), that is the sweetest story. What a very special young woman! I was already teary and then I got to the part about her neighbor and, oh my! I will pray for that neighbor.
Thank you so much for sharing, it really blessed me!
Amanda C.,
I think your ideas are very sweet. I think that we can all learn a lot from your kindness.

Amanda...That is an absolutely wonderful, selfless plan. I think your entire family, as well as your neighbor will hear your "love language". I hope that God will heap blessings on you. I can only pray that my own children will be as thoughtful.
I will pray for your neighbor too. Perhaps she will feel God's love through you and your sister's gesture.
I hope you win! What nice ideas!
:)
