College at Home - To the Glory of God

Thanks to Carmon, for the link to this interesting article by John Thompson. For those who think I've lost my marbles in some of the various remarks I've made concerning college, I thought you might find this article insightful. He discusses the following questions:
(1) What precisely is God's purpose for our children's higher education?

(2) Does a father's home-education responsibility extend to fully preparing his children for adulthood, marriage and establishing a new household?

(3) What specific disciplines (in academics, fine arts, life skills and spiritual development) are necessary for "entering adulthood?"

(4) How are these disciplines different for young women vs. young men?

(5) What role does a young person's God-given gifts, talents and interests play?

(6) How might these disciplines be developed during the post-high school years? (home business, apprenticeship, trade/technical school, college programs—under what circumstances?) And most importantly,

(7) How do our home-schooling convictions apply to post-high school training?

I think if a Christian wants to do the whole college thing, they definatly shouldn't go to a secular college, and I'd even consider staying away from Christian colleges, as many of those are now leaving its students with doubt in the Word of God.

I did college from home, and majored in Business Management. I think that is a great way for Christians to pursue college, if they so choose to.

I didn't finish college, so I didn't get a degree, but that didn't stop me from having a career (before I had children) with IBM.

My husband did some college for electrical engineering, but didn't finish either - no degree. Yet, he is now a Proto-type Engineer.

Praise God that good people can get good jobs, without some piece of paper. :-)

That's funny! I just linked to that article earlier today too. (Thanks to Carmon!)

Some interesting conversation generated from it.

I have a two year degree. Associates in Arts. I plan to go back to college and get a degree in History, possibly Medieval/Renaissance or American history. I would use this degree to further my writing. I'm working on becoming a full time writer so whether I get married or not I won't have to have an outside job.
