Random, Useless Musings
I'm having a "Blah" day. I think I need my SuperMom vitamins to come or something.
I've been reading Simply Organizing and getting so motivated (How I can be "blah" and motivated at the same time is beyond me -- Don't ask, I'm a woman!). My house is always in pretty good shape -- thanks to my mom raising me to enjoy and appreciate a clutter-free home. But, I can always find areas for improvement. This book has a lot of great ideas and insight.
In a fit of inspiration in the middle of reading this book last night, I bounded out of my cozy reading spot and decluttered the closet and bathroom cupboard. Don't ask me where the extra junk comes from or why I have been saving some clothes in my closet that I haven't worn in a few years, but they are gone now. And, it feels good to have my closet all neat and tidy again. Not that it was a mess, it just needed some improvement and some thinning out. I even boxed up the remaining maternity clothes and "in-between" clothes (Does every mom have a portion of her wardrobe designated for post-partum "fat clothes" or is that just me?) to save for later -- hopefully sooner than later, but we'll see what God has in store.
In other useless, random news, Kathrynne has been sleeping through the night. Yes, the WHOLE night. I seriously forgot how nice it felt to fall asleep in bed at night and wake up in the morning -- not 3 a.m. but more like 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. or (gulp!) 8 a.m. Really, really nice. Not sure how long it will last, but I'll enjoy it while it does!
I remember when Kathrynne was three months old and would sleep through the night -- I felt like such a good mom. But, I couldn't pat myself on the back too long for when she was around 6 months, she decided she didn't like sleeping through the night at all. Ever since then, despite trying many different things, she just wouldn't sleep more than four hours, or on a good night, maybe five hours at a time. As all mothers know, this can get tiring after awhile and I was beginning to wonder if Kathrynne was going to wake up every four-five hours for the rest of her life!
Gratefully, with some encouragement, establishing a bedtime routine, getting her to bed earlier, and moving her into a different room (instead of our room), she has been sleeping 8-11 hours every night for the last 2 weeks or so. I am hoping it lasts because she and I both need our sleep. :)
Well, I should probably go do something more useful than posting random useless facts. Something like making dinner. That would be good. I'm sure my hubby would like that, too. It would be better than the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches he had last night at 10:00 p.m. No, I'm not making that up -- that really was dinner last night. I wish I were perfect, but, since I'm not, at least it was whole wheat bread, all natural peanut butter, and all natural jelly. That's gotta count for something, right?

Don't feel bad about the PB &J sandwiches for dinner! You are just praticing for when that is all Kathrynne will eat! I think all of my boys went through a point where they adore them! Yes, I have half of a my closet that has maternity and post-partum "fat" clothes, but I think it is better that way, because I do not have to wear maternity clothes after a baby!
aaah Crystal, I'd almost forgotten about my post-partum "fat clothes". I do not think we are the only ones...there is always a little left over.
As for the PB&J, well we can't do that in my home...daughter is allergic, but we do have taqueria night. Don't feel bad, we all need a break once in awhile and sometimes things just don't go our way.
Blessings,
Sommer
So you mean babies DO eventually sleep through the night?! :) I am SO GLAD for you that Kathrynne is sleeping longer... I know how happy I will be when Reagan does, and I'm sure your joy is similar! :) I keep thinking if I only knew when he was going to sleep "through the night" I could be patient, knowing that at some point it will happen, even if it wasn't going to be for another year! Ah, well, God uses these things to teach us patience, I suppose, but I wish I would learn my lesson quickly!
Thanks for the encouragement you left on my blog. I tried giving him some oatmeal mixed with yogurt in a sippy cup since he decided he wasn't going eat it via spoon, but he didn't take to that very well. I tried a bottle of breastmilk and oatmeal tonight, and he ate very little, but I'm going to keep trying it throughout the night when he is really hungry.
Anyway, I'll not fill your comment space up with sleep problem stories. ;)
This post made me giggle, Crystal! Thanks for sharing another glimpse into your life. :) I hear you on the sleeping through the night thing--Sam didn't do so consistently till he was about 18 mos. old, and that was only with a lot of prayer and my sweet hubby's help! But now he consistently goes to sleep on his own, cheerfully and sweetly, and sleeps 10 or so hours a night, so we are very thankful!! I'm trying to really enjoy/take advantage of these last weeks of pregnancy before I have another newborn to get up with every night. And praying that this one will be a better sleeper from day one!! :)
Right now I am dreaming about getting back into my "fat" clothes--and then my normal clothes--I'm just to the point of getting tired of my maternity wardrobe. Only a couple months left (more or less)!
First: Yes, I too have a closet full of clothes in various sizes ranging from 2-12...you never know when you are finally going to pay the price for that extra donut.
Secondly: I love the info. you contribute about Kathrynne. I always breathe a sigh of relief and exclaim "oh good, my son is normal." (Yes, despite my "Sleep Strategy" question months ago, the master of the house (my 8 mo. old) has decided that HIS strategy is to continue getting up overnight as he sees fit.) I am anxiously awaiting the day when he, like Kathrynne, decides to wait and see us in the morning.
I just started on the Supermom vitamins--about 5 days ago, so my opinion isn't worth much, but the first few days I did NOT notice anything--the last two I feel like I have... stay tuned...
I had to laugh out loud on this one too. I SO identify with the "fat clothes" thing. At first I was mortified to buy a size 12 just so the waistband would fit around my thick tummy (then the problem is that its super baggy and bulky around the hips..argh). Its getting there though. I still dream of getting back into my size 6's.
Hope the Super Mom vitamins are a good fit for you! Taking vitamins have really made a difference for me. I take Salmon oil too, which I seriously recommend you look into.
I know this stuff (vitamins, supplements etc.) can get pricey, but I've come to look at it as an investment in our future health and wellbeing and, presently, enabling more effective service to my young family.
I don't have nearly the amount of BLAH days when I've been taking my fish oil and multi. Fish oil is brain food, helps with mental well being. I generally have a "longer rope" emotionally since I've been on it. Its good if you're pregnant too because it helps the baby's development by supplying Omega 3 fats (which we don't eat much of in our culture, nor is it really safe to because of mercury contamination in seafood...)
Helpful hints someone gave me:
make sure the label says what kind of fish the oil is from, the fish is from Norway or Icelandic waters, is free of any kind of contaminant, is gently processed.
I think Nordic Naturals, Carlson's, GNLD, and Garden of Life are high quality oils.
Just my 2 cents.
Well, ladies, I had my baby last Sunday morining at 5:32am. I only had an hour and a half of labor and thought I was going to deliver in the living room or car. I was only at the hospital for 15 min before he came. Dr, didn't make it in time. :)
Harry was 8 lbs 3oz and 19.5inches long. He is so beautiful and very good.
Just wanted to let you know. Don't know how much I will be able to be on here now since I am sooooo busy right now... and very tired. However, I know some of you wanted to know.
Zan, congratulations!!!!! I've been thinking about you and wondering if you had him yet . . . glad to hear everything went so quickly and that you are doing well. Rest up and enjoy your sweet new little one!
Congratulations, Zan! Is that your second boy?
