Mother's Day Songs?

Crystal,

I wanted to ask if you knew of any songs (or where I could get them) that would be about Mother's or a Virtuous Women to be able to sing on Mother's Day. Any help would be appreciated. -Amanda

Does anyone have any suggestions? I could not seem to think of much so I'd appreciate any ideas.

As most of you know, I'm pretty conservative when it comes to music, so if your suggestion is something really contemporary, it will probably not get posted on this blog, since I don't endorse a majority of the contemporary Christian music currently out there. For my futher thoughts on the subject of music, you can read, Taking Every Note Captive Part 1 and Part 2.

As an aside, I don't think I did a very good job of explaining myself in some of the posts I did on music, but I still hold to the essence of what was posted in part 1 and part 2. My music standards haven't changed, just why I believe what I believe and how I would present it to others has changed. If I were to do the whole series over again (which I don't plan to do again! I made enough enemies the first time around!), I'd probably approach it much differently. But, you live and learn! I certainly have a lot more living and learning to do!

While I haven't personally heard the recommendation I'm about to give, I've heard nothing but glowing praise from my friends who have heard it.

Above Rubies has a cd that is by Serene and Pearl. There are 2 actually. The one I know of is Soothe Me. Serene and Pearl are sisters and used to be the Christian musical group Considering Lily. They stopped their ministry as Considering Lily when they got married and began families of their own. But now they write and record songs of motherhood when time allows them. The women I know who have heard their music have been very blessed by it.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I hope it helps.

Buddy Green has a song called "Virtuous Woman". The lyrics are here: https://buddygreene.securesites.com/lyrics/lyrics_virtuouswoman.html and you can listen to a clip here: http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?event=AFF&p=1025188&item_no=CD10532#curr

If you're looking for vocal music, there is a beautiful song, "Who Can Find A Virtuous Woman?" that I have the sheet music for. I hope it's still available.

I absolutely love the song, "Cherish the Moment" by Ron Hamilton. I first heard it at a ladies retreat. Me and a friend sang it for a Baby Shower/Mother's Day banquet. It truly does bring tears to your eyes because it is so true. Here is some of what the chorus says, "Cherish the Moment. Soon you'll be apart. Cling to the memory, Clasp it to your heart. Soon comes the day when you'll have no child to hold. So cherish, cherish the moment."
May we all learn the cherish those fleeting moments.

Judy Rogers has a song on her Arise! Shine! album that might be of use to you, called "Candle of Faith."
I don't own the cd and haven't heard it for awhile, but I believe it is about the multi-generational faithfulness of the women in her family, grandmother to mother.

I would heartily recommend anything by Judy Rogers. Her work is simply scripture set to music. It is edifying, truthful, and uplifting. You can check out any of her things at www.judyrogers.com. Our family knows her personally and can verify that her music is a reflection of a life that seeks to follow after Christ in every way.

One song that thanks mothers (or fathers) for their faithfulness is "It Was Your Life." The song thanks the parents for raising them in a godly home & leading them to the Lord.
The Wilds (Christian Camp) sells it in this book for songs for different occassions, but it also can be sold as a single song: http://store.wilds.org/product_info.php?products_id=53
The first 90 seconds of the song can be found here: http://www.oldchristianmusic.com/mproductpages/mac-and-beth-lynch--life-become-more-simple.html
In our Christian school, we seniors sang this on graduation night to honor our parents, but I have heard it sung on Mother's Day too.

I am putting together a powerpoint presetation for Mother's Day using the song "Goodnight Kiss" by Annie Chapman. She and her husband Stephen Chapman, (not Stephen Curtis Chapman) have been singing about marriage and parenting for decades. We are using pictures of all the women and children in our little country church.

I would also recommend the music from Serene and Pearl of Above Rubies fame. :) I have their first album and really like it. Lots of good stuff about marriage, motherhood, and God.

Goodnight Kiss
By Kim Bolton
I count it as a privilege,
I count it cause for praise
to kiss my children goodnight
at the close of every day.

For I know too soon they're gone
and walking out the door.
And I'll never have a child
to kiss goodnight any more

It's strange how times have changed
from the present to the past.
When did they grow so quickly-
the time has flown so fast.

For it seems like only yesterday
I helped him(her) with his(her) shirt,
or pat my baby on the back,
or kissed away a hurt.

Tell a story, read a book,
wipe a nose, or tie a shoe.
They never ask me to rub their backs
the way they use to do.

Once it was a bother,
just a troublesome kind of chore.
But, now I would give anything
to do it just once more.

Mommy, bounce me on your knee.
Daddy, flip me in the air.
Throw a rubber ball to me,
and help me comb my hair.

Mommy, tickle my tummy
Daddy, hold me high.
Let's go outside for a while,
or make a kite to fly.

I count it as a priviledge,
I count it as a praise
To kiss my children goodnight
at the close of every day.

For I know too soon they're gone
and walking out the door.
And I'll never have a child
to kiss goodnight anymore!

This is recored by Steve and Annie Chapman but was written by my friend Kim Bolton. Her 4 children are now 12,14,22 and 26-so her time went fast with her good night kisses.

I love "Goodnight Kiss" as sung by Steve and Annie Chapman. But I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't prepared for a big-time crying session. I can't listen to it at any time without getting choked up.

I cannot find the sheet music for Ron Hamilton's "Cherish the Moment". Does anyone know where I can purchase it?
