Light-Bulb Moment
So, it took me almost 3 and 1/2 years of being a homemaker to figure this one out, but I'm glad I finally did:
It's okay to use paper plates sometimes.
There you have it, my friends, my word of wisdom for the day. Don't you all feel better now?

Oh We use those as well,Don't feel bad!
And I am sure Jesse will not mind, as long as his meal is served on something!(Hahahaha)
:) Yes, he doesn't seem to notice what his food is served on -- so long as he has good food to eat. :)
Ha ha, Crystal! It has taken me seven years- my mom has started buying them for me! I think we are all enjoying them for fun dinners like Friday pizza (a family tradition of ours).

Someone else told me that awhile back and it really helped me not to feel guilty! It helps alot in the summer especially when dishes are lost outside otherwise and so saves money in the long run!
It's a crisis here when we don't have any. My dh prefers to make my life as easy as possible---he would prefer to spend a couple dollars for my convenience and I am blessed by it:) !!!!!!

I am already planning to use paper plates for a while after this baby comes (only about 14 more weeks)!
We use them sometimes. We buy the super cheap ones so they aren't good for any 'real' food, but for toast, bagels, or sandwiches they're handy. Daddy always, always gets a real plate. He doesn't like paper at ALL. Maybe if we got some better ones he wouldn't mind. . . The ones we use are like a stiff napkin. :o)
I just came to the same conclusion! They can be inexpensive at the dollar store (but just check how many plates you actually get for your dollar and compare to the grocery store or drugstore.)Victoria Carrington
P.S. You can even use aluminum foil if all else fails!!! That's exactly what we did today while eating lunch at a rest stop. :-) Clean up is great....just scrunch up and toss. They also make for great throwing games too for the children (i.e., what they don't eat gets squashed up in the tin foil and then who has the heaviest one wins when then fling it into the trash can).
I am thinking that perhaps for the next few years I might just use this type of "plate" for every meal.....hee hee.
When my daughter was a baby, I started a "Momma's sick" basket. In the basket I had paper plates, plastic utensils, canned ravioli, pop tarts, etc. When you're sick, you need rest, not dishes to wash. Who wants germy hands handling clean dishes?? Occasionally using paper plates doesn't make you a bad homemaker; it just means you're able to bend a little when life calls for it.
You know, this must be an american thing. The only time I have had been offered food on paper plates has been at big, commercially run barbeques and at children's parties - but not at all the parties I have been to. I just don't know how they can be useful except for burgers or sandwiches, and they are soooo bad from an environmental point of view. I guess in some ways we in the UK are more formal - although in other ways we are cruder than americans. I know when I told dh about Debi Pearl's suggestion of toast on paper napkins for a meal he just freaked out. I had to agree. For a quick meal - which I adore from time to time - I find it is so easy to rinse the plates afterwards. And my bin stays nice and empty :o)
Different strokes.... :o)
Hi, another comment from the UK. We only use paper plates here for children's parties or occasionally church special meals for large numbers. My dh wouldn't be particularly impressed with paper plates either! We do have a dishwasher though which makes life easier.
If we want no washing up at all we have a picnic and don't worry about plates of any description.
Some of the nicest plates that I have eaten off were banana leaves in India. Sad, we don't get them here.

We use them too but not too often. =)
