Sometimes, the only thing you can do is laugh
I've learned a lot in my short tenure as a mother. Probably one of the most important lessons I've learned is to laugh. Yes, laugh. Sometimes there's not much else you can do and yelling or crying really won't help anything. So, you might as well laugh.
You probably know where this is going. Yep, today was one of those days. One of those days where you just laugh. We all have them as moms.
Recently, Kathrynne has "decided" that the bathtub is a much better place than the toilet or diaper to "do her business." So, almost everyone other bath, never fails, even if I just took her potty right before I put her in the bathtub, she still manages to go all over and we ruin the point of the bath.
Today was no exception. I was sitting in the bathroom talking to Jesse on the phone while watching Kathrynne take her bath. I guess I wasn't watching closely enough because she started hollering and I smelled an all-too-familiar smell and that was the end of the bath and the phone conversation. But, not the end of the story.
I pulled Kathrynne out, cleaned her off, and stood her next to me in the bathroom (not a good idea). While I was fishing things out of the water with toilet paper and trying to get the rest swished with water down the drain (sorry, not trying to be too graphic here!), I stopped and turned around to see that Kathrynne had gone again -- this time all over the bathroom floor. But not only that, she stepped in it and walked around the bathroom and all over the bathroom rug. While I'm trying to clean both she and the floor and the bathtub up without making a further mess, she got my contact case and threw it in the toilet which hadn't been flushed as I was still throwing the disinfectant wipes in it from the mess I was cleaning.
At that point, what could I do but laugh? Besides, I've learned that contact cases can be boiled, bathtubs and floors can be disinfected, and bathroom rugs can be washed.

I thought I was the only one this stuff happened to.
You may appreciate this post on my blog from a couple of weeks ago.

No poop, I promise. :)
I have also learned the important lesson of laughing - or at least, I am in the processing of learning! :) I can totally relate to your story! Sometimes it amazes me how some days can be SO GOOD and some days can be SO BAD. :)
Oh, I can completely relate! With 7 younger siblings we have had many "bath incidents"!!
Thanks for the reminder to laugh :)

Yeah, that sounds familiar! Good thing you've already learned to just laugh, because there's probably more where than came from! ;) (ask me how I know)
I'll laugh along with you. LOL
This reminded me of something that happened in my childhood...gross as well! My sister and I were taking baths together, and my mom left the room for a few minutes. When she returned, I was laying with my head submerged, singing and laughing away. My little sister had "done her duty" and needless to say I got my hair washed that night! LOL
Oh man!! I laughed so hard when I read this! ... Next time you guys come, I may be a bit less inclined to let Kathrynne take a bath in my bathtub. ; )

I had one of those one time!!! You are right, sometimes all you can do is laugh and wonder how on earth in such a short time they can get "that" in so many places!!!!
The twins are here visiting and as Kimberly was changing Evelyn's diaper she decided to potty right at that moment, thus soaking the side of the bed.
We all laughed. :o)
WanderingRose -- I loved the omelet story! I used to tutor a girl with Down's Syndrome one day a week and so I have a very special place in my heart for these beautiful children. Sometimes they are definitely a handful, though!! I could tell story after story and I'm sure you could, too!
Carrie: Yes, it's amazing how one day can seem like it was so wonderful and productive and the next day it is the complete opposite!
Kailey: What great experience you are getting for the future. I think being an older sister really helped prepare me for mothering.
Dollymama: I won't ask. :) But, I can only imagine...
Tammy: Sounds like a story my parents enjoy recalling when my sister and I were little. We were on a family camping outing and I woke up in the night leaned over my playpen and threw up on my older sister (I was only two and didn't know better). She woke up and got so sick because of what I'd done that she threw up, too. Needless to say, we didn't make it through the night at those campgrounds. My parents just picked everything up and headed home so that they could get us into the shower and all the bedding into the wash!
Gretchen: Ooops, you weren't supposed to read that. ;)
Martha: I'm sure that you have a lot of similar stories to tell. With lots of little boys, I can only imagine!
Olivia: Oh, I want to see more pictures of the twins! I just went to your blog and was disappointed that there were only a few. Wow! They are sure growing up, though. How is your sister doing with them? I can't imagine having twins!
Nothing like baby poop where it's not supposed to be to test your patience. We've had our share of poop in the bath and on the floor too. And I cannot count the number of times I've been peed on (boys, you know)
Ah, motherhood! :D
Oh my goodness... my little guy is not the only one! My thirteen month old has recently decided that the tub is his favorite place to do his business too. I've been trying to pull him out and put him on the potty as soon as I see him making "the face", but haven't made it in time once yet!
CappuccinoLife: You know what, as I was cleaning up this mess yesterday, I was thinking to myself "I can't believe that this doesn't even bother me." It's amazing how much these types of things don't bother us when it's our children -- it's just part of life. :)
Proverbs31Mom: I know exactly how you feel. I seem to be pretty bad about missing the cues, too -- at least recently, anyway!
Thankfully I do not have too many "poop" stories, but yes, some really gross things children do and yes, you wonder sometimes why it doesn't bother you so bad! I got really good at cleaning up throw up growing up as the oldest child, the best story was when mom and dad went for a aniversary trip and some of the children got sick with a throw up high fever flu. Some of the other children would just look at them throwing up and start too, it was a mess!
LOL!! I have so many stories like this too, sometimes involving two or three children at once. I remember one really horrible day when my husband came home from work and asked, "So, how was your day?" I just started laughing hysterically and couldn't talk for several minutes. These things are never funny at the time.....but they make great stories!
The same thing happened to me recently ... with my cat.
As my husband tells it...it was sure good practice for the baby!
