Enlisting your help

We are getting ready to launch our re-done site shortly (ran into a few technical glitches with the shopping cart, so it's taking longer than usual) and I'm wanting to expand some areas of our website. So, I'm asking for your help in two specific areas for now:

1. Modest Clothing Sites - After many requests for this, we are hoping to have a very extensive listing of modest clothing sites/links and, if possible, our personal review of them. I know this will take some time to collect and put together, but if you know of a site which sells modest clothing, can you comment with the link or email me? I'm looking for everything from tiny home businesses to large companies.

2. Bookstore Resources - We are wanting to expand our bookstore to include many more resources on homemaking - from sewing, cooking, cleaning, and frugality, to being a Godly wife and mother, to making our home a haven, to encouragement for unmarried young women, to home organization - anything that encourages and equip women in their God-given roles. If you have a recommendation of a resource which is one of your favorites as a woman or young woman, could you comment or email me and tell me about it? I feel as if we have barely scratched the surface with all the wonderful resources out there and I'd love to have your input on things you think we should sell!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Great areas to "expand"! I'm looking forward to what you'll have offer in both these areas...how exciting! For the modest clothing stuff....I haven't yet bought anything from this place, but the skirts look very nice...Hannah Lise (http://www.hannahlise.com/default.aspx). And I came across this Modest Clothing Directory (http://www.modestclothes.com/) and it is quite extensive within itself! However, along with the resources for Christians, there are also specific places for Moslem, Hindi and Mormon clothing...just to warn you! Hope this helps!

Check out Keepers of the Faith (www.keepersofthefaith.com). Their Keepers Clubs teach boys and girls the skills they need to grow up to be Godly and useful men and women.

Re. Homemaking Resources, I highly recommend and have gotten a lot out of BECOMING A WOMAN WHO PLEASES GOD and DESIGNING A LIFESTYLE THAT PLEASES GOD, both by Pat Ennis & Lisa Tatlock, who are on the faculty of the Home Economics Dept. at Master's College. There are aspects of their theology that I disagree with, but those aren't generally dealt with in the books. Very good resources about being a Godly woman!

Wholesomewear.com has some wonderful modest swimsuits! It almost sounds as if they might be coming out with regular clothes as well, but at the moment they only offer swimwear.

Crystal, you know that you are always more than welcome to put up our link: www.ajoyfulhandmaiden.com

And then another one that we highly recommend is www.thekingsdaughters.com and they have several website "branches" of ready-made clothing and patterns.

We also used to order from www.liliesapparel.com which we really liked as well.

Thanks for all the great comments and suggestions. I have compiled a long list based upon the recommendations I've received. Cheri, your website is most definitely on there. :)

Mommyof7, thanks for the interesting link. Great idea!

Crystal,

For books, I'd recommend CLE's Home Economics course. I disagree with a few points of doctrine, but otherwise, it is a great primer on housekeeping.

Another book I've found to be invaluable is Home Comforts: The Art & Science of Keeping House by Cheryl Mendelson. While not written from a Christian perspective, it is a veritable tome of anything and everything you ever wanted to know about every aspect of housekeeping.

The topic of modest clothing really got me thinking about a year ago. So many teenagers talk about how there is nothing modest out there. While I think there's not much modest on the racks, I think it can become an excuse. I like to dress "in-style" if I can and I usually can find something that is pretty well stylish and modest at the same time, it just takes time to find it. (It takes me even longer because I want to find it on the clearance rack!)

With the layered look in, here are a couple of websites I came across that would help with making low cut shirts and low fitting jeans (or high cut shirts) modest. Most tank tops I have found in the store aren't made to be modest.

http://www.myculottes.com has been mentioned and has nice long full denim skirts

http://www.liliesapparel.com has lovely dresses, but all I've ordered from them is a headcovering several years ago.

I have not used any of the following; these are just links I've collected:
