Homemaker-in-training

Kathrynne loves to "help" me clean and she is especially fond of her new "cleaning apron" made by Christy. She looks absolutely adorable in it!

After I don my apron to do my morning cleaning chores, I have been putting Kathrynne's apron on her as well and encouraging her to follow along and help me. This morning we asked Daddy to snap a picture of the "cleaning gals."

My apron shown in the pictures is from Taylor's Scarlet Thread - my review on their lovely products will be forthcoming shortly!

Okay, I don't know how the weather is in the Kansas, but aren't you WARM in that longer sleeved shirt? It's been obscenely hot here in Wisconsin...almost 100 degrees the last three days. I praise my sweet Jesus for enabling us to live in an apartment with air conditioning! ;)

Oh, and I LOVE the apron...I am actually ordering one of the regular calico ones this evening!

Andrea: Yes, I should have put on a short-sleeve shirt this morning. I was quite hot throughout my whole shopping and running errands jaunt this morning - more like dripping sweat to be precise. Don't ask me why I thought that it was going to be a cool day today. It's 101! I'm certainly glad for AC as well!

Oh, this weather is a test to modesty. I've given up on the shorts I was so proud of from the consignment shop; I'm finding I'm actually COOLER in my knee length skirts and little t shirts/sleeveless collared shirts than a tank top and shorts!

It's *supposed* to rain tonight...we'll see about that. It was also only supposed to be 81 today (last our thermometer said, it was 96!)...

Do you have any websites that carry nice skirts? I'm looking for woolen long skirts for winter...nothing baggy or shapeless...I don't want to look like frumpy, but long skirts are so warm on windy days here!!

(Okay, enough talk about the winter...)

I was thinking that same thing today, Andrea. Skirts definitely are cooler for me, as well.

I love long thick skirts with boots for winter! (Not cowboy boots, mind you - the cute, feminine boots. Nothing against cowboy boots, they are just so not my style!) Try Chadwicks.com - they usually have some nice suede and wool skirts and I really like how they fit. Their rayon skirts are nice, too. They have some on sale here:

I'm fairly small and have trouble getting their blouses to fit (small is not usually small enough), but their small skirts fit me well.

Also, http://www.littletouchofelegance.com/ladies.html

If you can sew, you might also try sewing some skirts. I can even make some simple patterns that look decent, so if I can do it, you can, too! :)

Sweet pictures. Aprons are so lovely. I like the simplistic look of the one you have on.

It's been a whopping 104 degrees here today. Plus 75% humidity which bumps the heat index considerably. We were out shopping all day too; and it was hot. Thankfully I did put all my hair back before we left.

Oh, and I meant to say that if anyone else wants to share where they get their skirts from, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it. I think there needs to be at least 10 more websites online that sell nice, feminine skirts. Anyone who sews want to start something up?

Hmm...I'll start watching Chadwicks...my problem is that I'm pretty average shaped (for a Midwesterner), but I'm not short short, but not tall...so petites sometimes are too short, and misses is usually too long...I might look into making a few things. Thanks for the idea...perhaps I'll start with an apron from your store!

I agree - you and your daughter look lovely together in your aprons.
I have very fond memories of similar things from when I was small - except for me it was an apron for cooking & baking :) Even today when I'm in the kitchen I recall those times. Ahh, reminiscing...

What lovely photos, Crystal! My older girl (now 4)used to wear her little Austrian style apron when she helped me bake cookies. Now I've just realized it should fit our 2 year old- You've just inspired me to dig it out again! Isn't it lovely when they want to help?

I enjoyed the pictures of you and Kathrynne, as always :) What nice aprons! :D

I have a couple aprons and I usually forget to put them on until after I'm already dirty! haha But most days I get up and put on older "work clothes" because I figure I'm going to end up with baby spit-up and food splatters on my anyway ;)

Oh, how adorable...thank you for sharing!

And I love your apron, Crystal...I noticed on the web-site for "Taylor's Scarlet Thread" that is said that apron is made from the Sense & Sensibility pattern. I'm assuming it's the Edwardian Apron pattern...do you know if they altered or modified it at all from the pattern to make the one you're wearing? Thanks for any info and have a glorious day!

Jessica: The apron is the Edwardian apron - they made their own bias tape out of cute calico fabric and then added some little embroidered motifs. But, it is the exact same pattern. :)
