Don't feel guilty

My friend Cheryl just called and asked me what we were having for dinner. I think she was a little surprised when I told her we were having Totino's Pizza Rolls and Hot Pockets.

I don't know, but some people seem to have this strange idea that I only serve my family dinners I spent hours making. I thought it was time to dispel that myth. After all, I don't want anyone else to feel guilty if you're serving frozen waffles for dinner tonight.

For the record, we don't usually eat frozen boxed food for dinner and I certainly think you should strive to make nice meals for your family, but serving a boxed dinner with love and a smile is really okay sometimes. Really. Especially when you got the processed boxed dinners for free on sale with coupons. Plus, my family thinks they're great. And we'll have a big salad to counteract all that processed bad stuff.

I agree with Samantha, thanks for linking to those coupons. In reading your blog, I have been really interested in where you find all those coupons for the great savings you write about. You may have mentioned it before in a previous post, but I would love more information on it. Are there other websites, like the Pillsbury one, that offer great coupons for free?

Crystal,
You go, girl. I appreciate the fact that you are openly dispelling the myth that all homemakers are or should be "perfect". I gladly join the ranks with you. I cannot relate to homemaking sites that appear to be - so I thank you.

I'll never be like Martha Stewart, but that's okay. :) I am trying to do my best also within this feeble body I have. My spirit is willing, but the body, well, it's just weak these days.

Enjoy your dinner!

I'm planning to do a series on couponing and budgeting and frugality soon - if I can keep getting so sidetracked with so many other great things to post! But, here are a few of my favorite coupon websites which always have at least a few great printable offers:

www.pillsbury.com/coupons (the one I listed)
www.coupons.com
www.Smartsource.com

You might also check out www.coolsavings.com and do a search for "Free Printable Coupons"

Anyone else have recommendations?

Glad to hear you are like the rest of us! We do not eat processed food, manly because it is just too expensive! The other day though I got a Banquet crockpot stew for free and we enjoyed that! I got it because I had a pot pie that was not very tasty and they sent me a coupon for one free banquet product for up to $6. If you get something that is not good, it pays to complain at times.

Side Note: Cheryl went to Wal-Mart and bought some processed Chicken Egg Rolls for tomorrow nights dinner and then she went to McDonalds. :-)

The most practical thing I did when I got my first baby was to sign up for Schwan's home delivery. Every other Friday, the Schwan Man comes to the door and offers yummy items.

Since we have friends over all the time, we keep a HUGE supply of chicken fingers and tater tot type items that almost any child will eat. I serve those with a side of frozen berries or applesauce and feel like I've served a decent meal at the spur of the moment.

Schwans also offers resealable bags of frozen veggies which are nice to have. My boys will eat slightly thawed veggies as a snack!

I don't serve my darling husband minicorn dogs and french fries at very many meals but he certainly doesn't mind if I do. He just likes to have dinner ready when he gets home because after he changes his clothes (and wrestles with the boys for a bit), he's ready for dinner.

**My father was the SAME way. He wanted to eat as soon as he got home from work and changed clothes. If dinner was not quite ready at that point, my mom would saute onions in a little butter so the house would smell like food was cooking. I was almost 16 before I realized that those onions were often not part of a dinner item! LOL. If the table was set and the house smelled good, my father could enjoy a relaxing arrival home.**
