AWOL

In case anyone has wondered why I've been extremely quiet around here the last day or so (since I know that is quite an anomaly for me!), I'm currently sitting in a beautiful condo in the Ozark Mountains. Kathrynne and I picked Jesse up from a short business trip late yesterday afternoon and headed to one of our favorite vacationing spots to spend a few days of rest and reprieve and fellowship with dear friends and family.

This resort was supposed to have free high speed internet so I assumed checking/answering my email and blogging would be a piece of cake to quickly accomplish in the midst of all the other great activities planned. But, I guess you get what you pay for since the last 24 hours logging onto the internet was virtually impossible (no pun intended!). I was finally able to log on tonight and so wanted to post something really quickly to let you know my whereabouts.

If you don't hear from me for a few more days, you'll know I'm enjoying an "unplugged" life of reading, sewing, talking with friends and family, eating great food, enjoying my family, and maybe getting in some kayaking and paddle boating (and, if we can get it worked out, we're hoping to rent jet skis for an hour or two since we've never done that before!).

If I can log on in the next few days, I'll try to post some pictures of the great times we've been having. If not, I'll be back and refreshed and ready to hit the ground running with blogging again early next week.

Hmm, maybe I should let you talk amonst yourselves? Anyone want to take the floor and open up a great topic for discussion? I can't promise I'll post it, but feel free to take a shot. I've never done an "open comments" thread before, but maybe I'll give it a try. :)

Sounds like fun, Crystal! Hope you have a good time and get to try Jet-skiing! I got to try it this summer for the first time. It was neat! Since I am scared of canoes, it was strange to me that I wasn't scared at all!

Open discussion? maybe who has the best winter soup recipes or cookies? It is getting cold up north!

How fun!! Thanks for the update ;)

I think you should let us all talk about where we live, so we can see if there are other people in our area we might want to meet up with! :D

I'd like to know if any mothers are tempted to make their children a higher priority than their husbands, and if they are, what do they do to combat that temptation?

Or maybe some of you think that it's not a problem...

Ok, I'll pose a question: Who can tell me what to do with a 6 month old who won't sleep and who is VERY and I mean VERY persistant in his crying and screaming. In fact, when I try to do the "don't pick him up until he stops crying" trick....it only gets WORSE!!! He doesn't stop.....he is like the Energizer Bunny - He just keeps going and going and going and going and going.

So, does anyone have a suggestion for this mama who THOUGHT she had it all together in regards to knowing how to train a baby to sleep.

P.S. Crystal, if you are with your mom (HI!!! Barb!!), ask her what she would do....I know we talked about this previously, but I could really use some more encouragement. :-)

Hi Crystal.. and all you other loevely ladies and sisters in the Lord! :-)
Well I am new to this site- just happened upon it during a google search for articles and resources on biblical womanhood- and I would love to hear what all you ladies have to say on the topic of marriage, specifically Respecting Husbands. In Ephesians 5:22-33 the word of our Lord tells us
"husbands, love your wives, and you wives, respect your husbands..." What are some practical ways you all show your husband you respect him? And things you do to cultivate that respect in your hearts? We are currently studying this topic at our church,
(sovereign grace ministries.org,)come this October's annual Women's Retreat and I am excited about it! I am 4 years into my walk and almost 3 years married so I have lot's to learn! Thanks Crystal, and all ;) ~ StaceyH

Enjoy your time with family. What a blessing! Also, wanted to let you know that the book How to be a Lady is offered for about 1/4 of the price of the version you posted at Grace & Truth Books. I know a lot of people are interested in saving money. After hearing you talk about the book I wanted to buy it, so was glad to see a version available for $11.

Crystal, have a wonderful vacation! I am jealous.

I posted months ago on the recent development of Christian women "adopting" discarded fertilized embryos to be implanted in their wombs. This is a topic which has most of my friends and Christian ethicists stumped as to the ethics involved- maybe some of your readers could take a shot at it.

c.a. - is your babe teething? My little one had a terrible time sleeping (and still does at 21 months) when teeth are cutting through because he's in pain. I don't blame him, I can't sleep when I hurt either. I found that motrin works well at night. Also, if I sleep next to him he sleeps a lot better on those nights (he does sleep fine in his own bed when he's not in pain). Dunno if you're willing to do that, but it worked well for me and I got a lot more sleep too which made me a happier mommy the next day!

Hi c.a.

I had the same issues with my last little one and I just couldn't stand to let her cry it out. I ended up getting the book: The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night by Elizabeth Pantley.

It worked wonderfully! Rebekah is one the best sleepers that I have.

Okay, here's my contributions :D

1. Winter Soup recipe: I love my corn chowder recipe! Yum, Yum! Crystal loves this one too ;) http://www.tammysrecipes.com/corn_chowder

2. We live in Northwest Ohio. Email me if you live close... we love meeting new people!! fourteen_seventeen@yahoo.com

3. I think it's a common struggle to juggle children and husband and try to make sure no one gets short-changed. I know for me, I always tend to feel like my babies are poor helpless little things that "need" me so much (and they do!) and forget that my husband has needs, too. And his needs are just as real! I think having a loose schedule can help, just so everyone knows what's going on. But the main thing that works for me is putting MYSELF LAST. Usually I can be there for my children and husband IF I'm not wasting time or spending too much time in leisure activities. It's tempting to take care of the children and then want to run off an do my own "fun stuff" and put my husband LAST. He doesn't really mind if I care for the children "first", he just wants what's left. ;)

Hi there....is anyone familiar with Christian Libery Press for homeschooling? Have you been happy with it? I love how biblically based everything appears to be but I would love input, both positive and negative, from anyone who has experience with this curriculum. Thanks!
