A community outreach idea
I received an email a few weeks back from a woman who shared of an outreach they have in their community. I thought it was a great idea and wanted to pass it along:
About 2 years ago, the idea for starting what we call a "Dorcas Corner" on our property was thought of because of numerous comments from women frustrated with the effort and time it took to try to find feminine, modest apparel at the department stores and second hand stores, often finding very little if anything at all. This can be a great hardship especially for those that have small children with them while they shop and for those that need to be very careful with spending, ultimately having to pass by an item because of the sales slip. Dorcas of the Scriptures saw a need in her day, and because of the need today to aquire clothing that reflects modesty, Dorcas Corner has come about in an attempt to help. The clothing obtainable at Dorcas Corner is in very good or new condition. Women and girls will find modest clothes in various styles and sizes that are distinct from men's clothes. All of the donations are available at no cost.If anyone is interested in sending donations of extra clothing to this "Dorcas Corner" or would be interested in finding out more information on this, feel free to email me and I'll put you in touch with this woman.
Those who give to Dorcas Corner are happy to participate toward this effort, hoping that their contributions will be a blessing for someone else. Now obviously, the Dorcas Corner on our property can only serve our community. It is my hope that others that have a room, corner, closet or even shed space available, would consider beginning a clothing exchange in their area. The results have brought about a healthy community exchange, with unbelievable bargains, sure to make anyone who visits smile, (including our dear husbands and fathers, whom benefit from the help in having their ladies and princesses dressed well).
