Review: More Hours in My Day

More Hours in My Day
by Emilie Barnes

Do you ever wish that you had a 36-hour day? I know I have before, many times. In an effort to become more organized and efficient (something I am always striving after!), I picked up More Hours in My Day from the library recently. I have enjoyed many of Emilie Barnes' books over the years and this one was in no way a disappointment to me. Emilie shares all sorts of strategies for living more productively with the goal of having more time to invest in your family and glorify the Lord.

I especially appreciated the practical and detailed charts she shared for managing menu-planning, cleaning, children's chores, finances, shopping, and more. After reading it, I was motivated to use my homemaking schedules again in earnest - having a plan and working a plan truly does make a difference in how much I accomplish in a day.

I also appreciated the following points Emilie shared for keeping the flame alive in your marriage:

1) We must be willing to surrender our egos to the needs of the other person.
2) Pay attention to the other person.
3) See you man as your leader and hero.
4) Make your husband feel good about himself; build him up in his eyes, your eyes, and the eyes of the world.
5) Shower you man with love.

She encouraged wives to ask their husbands every morning, "Is there anything I can do for you today?" It seems so simple, but I know I forget to do this sometimes. I often begin the day with my schedule and my to-do list in hand without asking my husband what his needs are and how I can seek to meet those needs that day.

No matter whether you are unmarried, newly married without children, a grandma, or a mother of a housefull, you will find practical encouragement and blessing in the pages of More Hours in My Day.

I have read this book and loved it too, all her stuff is good. By the way I switched to Beta and it is great and you can pretty much move your old template over, with a bit of reworking. The only thing they need to work on is getting the comments thing right again. But I am definately enjoying the Categories feature!
