Quick break from cleaning

I'm busy cleaning and folding laundry this morning in between trying to get Kathrynne and I well (we came down with something the past few days - I think it's the usual weather-changing sickness stuff)... lots of tea, vitamins, and herbs... hopefully we'll be on the mend soon.

Jesse and I stayed up late last night discussing solutions to my current struggle with not seeming to have enough hours in my day. He wisely suggested I write down everything I do all day long today in each ten minute interval and we could look over it tonight and see if I'm spending too much time in the wrong areas. What a good exercise this has already been for me! Speaking of needing more hours, check out this great article just posted on LAF - I've not have a chance to but skim it, but plan to go back and carefully re-read it later. I can really use the encouragement right now! What helps you have more time in your day? I'd love to hear any tips! I think I'm needing more discipline and more streamlining.

For those of you who like chocolate, Tammy posted one of our favorite recipes here. It might seem like an interesting combination, but I promise it's worth the try. Yeah, I know it's not the healthiest recipe ever, but it sure is a good treat and a great way to use up bananas.

In other news, I just got word that my dear friend Becky Miller (whom many of you know) is in labor. I'm sure she'd appreciate our prayers today. We'll be anxiously awaiting the arrival of precious little Katherine!

Well, my ten minutes is up - back to work!

I'll be very interested to see how that goes for you and your talk with your dh.

I feel the very same way - only I have less responsibilities than yourself. However, my challenge is my health.

I hope it goes well for you.

Sincerely,
Lyn

I totally sympathize. I am not really able to cook/bake very efficiently while my son is awake so I feel like I'm often behind in that area. However, I'm getting better at organizing my day & something I've found very helpful w/in the last few months is learning to get more done while my son is awake.

I used to wait to do most around-the-house cleaning/chores while he was napping, but now I try to do as much as I can while he's awake. He requires a lot of attention still, but I can talk, sing & play w/him while I clean the bathrooms, etc.

Anyway, getting a lot of stuff done while he's awake gives me time w/the Lord (without hurrying, which is a temptation when I have a list full of things to do) & time to catch my breath during his naps.
I still have a lot of scheduled playtime w/him while he's awake, but I'm just more proactive about working on my to-do list while he's awake.

Come to think of it, this might not be helpful b/c you likely have a much fuller plate than I do, as you also run a business from home.

"For those of you who are like chocolate..."

I'm like chocolate! I melt when it gets hot outside :)

Have fun writing down your day! I did that myself a few months ago, but gave up half-way through the day. It was too depressing! I really figured out what my problem was: lots of diaper changes, laundry, and cooking, interrupted by babies ;D I told Joshua, "well, I now know why I don't feel like I get much accomplished! Listen to my morning: feed baby, change baby, feed toddler, eat breakfast, wash up toddler, change baby, take toddler potty, sort laundry, clean up mess, feed baby, change baby, start lunch..." lol! :)

Crystal,
One thing I am learning is to just be flexible....once I seem to be in a good routine, inevitabley something changes or my children go through a new phase and then I'm back to square one. =) You seem to be a wonderful wife and mother and I'm sure your family feels very blessed to have you....how's the napping situation going with Catherine?
=)

"USE UP BANANAS"?!?!?!?! If you have bananas you can "use up" on baking, you are most blessed!!!!! In Australia, bananas are ASTRONOMICALLY expensive at the moment and almost nobody can afford to buy them! I haven't had a banana in MONTHS, I am sure. And baking with them is only a dream. :) Enjoy your bananas! If you could ship them, I'd be ordering. ;)

First, I wanted to let you know how much fun I have reading your blog! A friend suggested it and now I'm hooked! I have 7 children and my favorite way to get more hours in a day is to multi-task ( I know...old idea but worth repeating!). If I need to call someone, I iron or clean the bathroom. If my hubby wants to talk or watch a movie, I fold laundry. Cooking and doing dishes is my favorite time to talk with the kids and visit. Anything I can do mindlessly while focusing on something else more important...I do it! Except my time with God...and dates with my husband! Although I might pop in a good preaching tape while I'm grading school papers. I also break my day down into 1/2 hour increments and fill each space up. A specific time to do things less desirable makes it more likely they will get done. But I'm also very flexible when I have to be because of others' needs or illness...but not because "I don't feel like it." Also, each Monday, I make a list for my week and the things I need and want to accomplish on each day, crossing them off as I do them. This helps me not to forget things and also I just love the feeling of knowing I did everything I was supposed to for the day or week.
