Have you voted?

In the past few months, we've walked our precinct, worn stickers, attended rallies, met politicians, decorated our vehicle with bumper stickers, passed out literature, and talked to scores of people. I've posted about it here on my blog and sent out an email to my email newsletter. We've had long discussions around our dinner table, followed the polls, read many articles, and prayed fervently...

Tuesday, November 7 is here and I have one question for you:

Have you voted?

As I wrote earlier last week:

Though this is not a Presidential election year, this election is very crucial to the direction of our nation. If you are a registered voter in the U.S., please take time next Tuesday to vote. And please encourage your relatives, friends, and neighbors to do the same. I've made it my personal goal to encourage 25 people to vote. If each of you did the same, think of the impact that could make!

For those who live in Kansas, I especially implore you to vote. There are some very Godly men on the ballot this year who are in extremely tough races. Each and every vote makes a difference. Take the time, make the time, to vote. The future of our state and this nation depends upon the leaders we elect today. If you are unsure of who to vote for in Kansas, this website has a lot of helpful information on conservative candidates.
What's stopping you? Go vote. Right now. Don't put it off until later. Do it first thing in the morning if you can.

As Shannon said:

There is great speculation this year that the "values voters" of middle America will stay home from the polling places. That we've had enough. That we've given up.

Prove them wrong.

Show them that regardless of how our politicians may behave, we Normal Americans still care enough to be a part of the process, flawed though it may be. The worse things get in Washington, the more your vote matters.
So, have you voted?

Just For Fun!

I have made a personal goal of hearing from 200 people on my blog who voted. I'd like to top that number, but I thought I'd at least shoot for something quite reasonable.

So, if you have voted, I want to hear from you. I don't want to hear who you voted for, or what party you voted for (Sorry, we're going to stay away from party politics today, though I certainly would hope that the majority of you would be voting conservatively!). All I want to know is that you and your family voted and how many in your immediate family voted.
If you advanced voted, be sure to tell us that, too. I'm going to keep a running tally all day and let's see how many votes we can collectively come up with from this blog's readership! If you don't feel comfortable commenting or don't know how to comment, please email me with your family's voting tally.

Feel free to copy this idea or something similar and use it on your own blog, too. The more conservatives out there encouraging their conservative friends to vote, the better. (By the way, to all my non-conservative readers, you all have my complete permission to take the day off from blogging and voting tomorrow!)

I'll start: We advanced voted - 2 persons total in our home (too bad Kathrynne's not quite old enough yet!).

I think I already indicated on another post that we had already voted, but just in case we weren't in the count (I sure don't want to be disenfranchised ;), there were five votes from the Hayden family and every one of them were from advanced voting last Saturday. I was thrilled to have voted already. Now I can focus on other things tomorrow. :)

Sorry to disappoint, I voted a straight democratic ticket and my parents voted spilt tickets. My brother is away at college and won't vote. (Although he could have if had really tried)

I’m thinking turn-out is going be good this year, they said it had been steady all morning. The last election we had was a run-off between 2 candidates and in a city of a quarter-of a million people only about 1000 voted.

We were at the polling place early this morning. My daughter got to vote for the first time. She is mentally challenged, yet knows her heart in whom she wants to vote for. Of course we discuss things that are important to the family. We have 4 in our family, and now we all can vote. We made it a family affair, got up early, went and voted, then my husband took us out for breakfast. He thought that would be a good tradition to start.

Hubby and I have voted today! Here in South Carolina there was a marriage amendment on the ballot this year, very important stuff! Now comes the fun part :)...watching the numbers roll in. My two oldest (9&5year old daughters) get a real kick out of it too. They were so excited during the last presidential election (at only 7 and 3!) you would have thought they were running! My five year old asked this year if they were old enough to vote yet (heehee) and was kind of upset when I told her it would be a while. They pray with us for our officials and elections, I think that gives them a feeling of ownership in it all.

I voted! Though it took some work- I never received my mail-in ballot, our city's website reflected an incorrect polling place, and when I got to my real polling place I was told that my driver's license isn't good enough ID as it reflects an old address (though my current address is on my "virtual" license), so I had to go home and get 3 utility bills reflecting my current address- except all my current bills go to my PO Box due to the prevalence of mail theft in our city- so I dug up some older bills (yay filing system!) and fortunately no one looked too closely at the dates on them, and I voted!!!!

I'm the only voter in our home currently, as the Mr has not yet obtained his citizenship. However, most of my siblings and both my parents voted early. The Arizona ballot was LOADED with propositions this year- I actually NEEDED my cheat sheet as some were very similar in topic. Whew!

I think there should be a paper trail when counting the votes.

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to determine who is worthy, when very few candidates respond to the Illinois Family Institute (found through Focus on the Family "Citizen" website) questionnaire. If they refused to answer, I was very sceptical. I very rarely would cast my vote for someone who would not reveal their views, unless I knew more about them. Even today, I felt uninformed, especially about judicial candidates...but, I voted my best, and did my duty before God and my country.
