Yet more weirdness

After spending most of this week so sick that eating was entirely the last thing I wanted to do, you know how nice it was to wake up this morning craving pancakes? And then cinnamon rolls... and then Subway... and then mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, and yes, green salad. I even had one moment where pumpkin pie with whipped cream sounded really yummy.

Of course it only lasted a short while and then I went back to ole' sick thing, but it was sure nice to have a short little window of liking food again. :)

By the way, my apologies for the lack of postings of substance recently. I'm sure at some point in the future my life will revolve around more than the couch, nausea, and sleep. In the mean time, I'll try to spare you most of those details.

That is too funny. Pancakes with lots of butter and syrup were what I started craving when my morning sickness slowly started to go away a few weeks ago. I am feeling better now and no longer want pancakes but now I want banana's blended in milk, fried cheese sticks and salad with Thousand Island dressing. Oh, and I cannot get enough apple juice, which I normally dislike.
Yes, pregnancy makes us so weird!

Hi Crystal, I read that ginger relieves morning sickness, so you might want to ask your midwife about taking it. I hope you feel better soon! Congrats on Baby #2! Kathrynne will be a great sis!

Crystal, you could also try taking vitamin B6 - they sell it fairly cheaply at Walmart. I am taking it now and it seems to help somewhat (I also make tea out of fresh ginger and honey and lemon and that really helps too). It might be worth it! I hope you're able to get some of the foods you're craving! At least you are craving green things! This week I pretty much crave green peppers and bananas all the time. I'm starting to feel like a crazy Sesame Street episode: "And week 11 of this pregnancy is brought to you by the letter B for bananas..." ;)

i know not everybody is willing to take medicine..so i'm just putting it out there...

i was so sick my first pregnancy that i lost 30 lbs in 3 months....they put me on diclectin...which was created by motherisk at toronto sick kids hospital for people who have trouble functioning due to a high hormone level that creates nautia...btw it is usually a sign that your baby is very viable and healthy...it is taking so much from you to grow that it leaves you weak...for my second..same thing..i was on diclectin my entire pregnancies...the joy was the dose was 2 pills per 12 hrs...i was able to make it one pill per 36 hrs...just enough to not be sick and yet still function..

just an fyi for those who are interested....i know my babies benefited and were able to grow thanks to this medecine....good luck with your blessing

I have had three children and each pregnancy got worse as far as sickness. This last one (I now have a three month old) was so bad I actually lost 20 pounds instead of gaining! The ONLY thing I could eat and not get sick was tacos. It didn't matter who made them I never got sick on them. No kidding everything else I ate for the 7 1/2 months I was sick came back up! It was so strange tacos worked. My midwife seems to think it has something to do with the spices...who knows. I have to say that it was all worth it in the end because I now have a precious little one that is perfect in every way! Please know I will be praying for you

*Sigh* all this morning sickness talk is making me very wary of having children. It is the one thing I'm terrified of!

Okay, well that, and a hospital staff that doesn't respect my wishes during labor.

I hope you soon feel better, Crystal.

These two links might be helpful to you(they both mention cleanses of the liver prior to pregnancy but eating dandelion greens or endive while pregnant can be a safe and gentle way of organ support):

Old timer remedies for nausea are cinnamon and cloves(I've steeped a few whole cloves in boiling water and it alleviated nausea/vomiting issues with my dad and the flu). Foods cooked with these might help as I've read taking actual supplements(ingesting the cloves in way larger amounts than normally used in cooking) isn't a good thing for women pregnant or nursing. Many herbal sites say cloves are safe used in other ways.

Praying that you will be feeling back to your old self in no time! My second trimester was wonderful! I felt better than I ever felt in my life!! Maybe it was because I had felt so bad the first few weeks and once it passed, I just thought how wonderful it was to feel normal again!! Ha!

I loved mashed potatoes a few weeks ago when my sickness was so bad. I liked baked potatoes, too. Hubby got really good at making me gingerroot tea and that helped a lot. At 14 weeks I am now in a Subway phase. I'll pray for you and little one!

Crystal,

I am right there on the couch, and next to the toliet and doing bare bones basics with you. I am 7 in half weeks and I am telling you I know what you mean. I feel like nausea and sleep is now my new life. For the next few weeks. I am having a hard time because the holdiays are my favorite. I love around no family so I try to make it super special for my children and hubby and the thought of decorating and cooking even filling out christmas cards I feel so overwhelmed and sick even more. My new worry is that I am spotting every now and then and my Doc doesn't seem to worried about it but I sure am.

I drank gallons and gallons of lemonade my first 3 months...and then when my midwife told me to limit all that sugar, I found that plain lemon juice in my water, first thing in the morning seemed to take away that horrible metallic, nauseous taste in my mouth.

Other then the lemon water and lemonade, I haven't really had any crazy weird cravings.

I am SO incredibly excited (I thinK I am happier than she is herself!!)

Just thought I'd share the news.. Actually I want to tell the world! I am going to be an AUNT!! YAY!!

Crystal, that nausea is just plain no fun! Aren't you glad that it has such a happy ending? With my last pregnancy, I craved ICE! I would eat ice all day and night long. Bad for the teeth, but kept the weight down, LOL.

From week 6 to about week 14 I was always battling nausea and NOTHING would stay down. I ended up losing 8 lbs and was concerned so I went to the doctor. She said to eat ANYTHING that appeals to you and said to try freezies, popscicles, etc. I literally lived on those (and icecream sandwiches) and broth for those weeks!

It is truly amazing the way our bodies change and what they do...

Hi Crystal,
I guess everyone has to be wierd in their own way. Normally, I eat spicy food. If I ate something lightly seased, I had to add hot sauce or BBQ sauce or something. Now at 8 weeks I can finally, eat a couple tablespoons of mashed potatoes and green beans at a time. If I eat more than that, I have heartburn in addition to my nausea.
Are you willing to share your green salad recipe? Other than mashed potatoes, I am eating green foods.
