Another day, another opportunity to not procrastinate
With thanks again to Mrs. Wilt's Anti-Procrastination challenge, here's what Kathrynne and I tackled today:
In the Kitchen
Southwest Chicken Roll-Ups ... Ready to stick in the oven for dinner - Yes, I know what you moms of more than a few are thinking! Can you believe that a pan that small feeds our family for dinner?
Delicious whole-grain rolls, recipe compliments of my brother. I can't believe I actually made a good roll that the dough was made in the bread machine. Finally! And so easy at that!
Dishes washed and kitchen cleaned up. Oh how I love a shiny sink! By the way, my verse cards (for Colossians, the book I'm hoping to memorize this year) are above the kitchen sink. I've found that's a handy place to keep them. It guarantees I'll at least review them and mediate on them more than a time or two per week! And in case anyone is wondering what the glass bottle is - that's one of our milk jugs. We buy milk from a local dairy and clean and return the jugs when we buy more. More often than not, we have one sitting by the sink filled with sudsy water at all times.

My afternoon anti-procrastination project was to put up the decorations in our guest bathroom that we had purchased last weekend. More details and pictures here showing that project.

I also finalized all the details on a six-week sign language class some deaf ladies from our church will be teaching at our home starting next week. Since about 25% of our church is deaf, we have been working on learning basic ASL for the past year. I've been wanting to have further instruction than just picking it up here and there at church, or from Kathrynne's Baby Signing Time, so I'm very excited to finally have the opportunity to take a class! I'm told that learning ASL from a deaf person is the best way to go about it so we'll see how it goes. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, but I'm trying to push myself out of my supposed "comfort zone" anyway, so now's the best time to start as any I guess.
Speaking of "out of my comfort zone," a friend and I are enrolling in Wilton Level 1 cake decorating classes tomorrow. Don't ask me what I was thinking but she got me into it (It's all your fault, Melanie!!). The thought of me decorating cakes seems about the biggest joke ever, but like she told me, you never know you can't do something until you try. And she promises me it's really easy. Um, we'll see about that. I have my doubts... Don't expect me to be starting a wedding cake business in the near future, though!

My mom and I took a Wilton class years ago...it was so much fun! It really comes in handy when you're making your kids' birthday cakes. My mom always made us each a special cake on our birthdays...many of them were ridiculously elaborate. It's one of my favorite birthday memories!
I've toyed with the idea of taking a Wilton Cake Decorationg class. Please keep us posted on how it goes.
The classes you signed up for are wonderful. It is great you get the opportunity to take them.
Okay, I want the recipe to the Southwestern Chicken Wraps! That sounds right up our alley.
Any chance you'll share your recipes with us? They sound YUMMY!!!!
I think you'll have FUN in the cake decorating class!! I've been wanting to take one, but it never works out with our family's schedule. I simply cannot frost a cake much less decorate. I figure if someone professional were to watch me, they could help me correct whatever I'm doing wrong!! LOL!!
Thank you for sharing with us!!

Yay, Crystal! You can do it! :o)
By the way, the Wilton cake decorating classes are phenomenal. I've taken all 3 of them, and the money I've saved on making my family's birthday cakes and baby shower cakes has well defrayed the expense by now! Plus, I really gained a new appreciation for birthday cakes and how much time they take to bake and make. Good luck! :o)
PS- Yummy...southwestern chicken wraps...sounds bloggable to me! LOL
Those Chicken roll-ups sound (and look)delicious! Would you mind posting the recipe sometime?
I haven't commented in awhile but I have been reading!
I loved reading about all you have been doing in your new house. It is really looking nice! I am sure the larger kitchen is making things a lot more convenient. I can't wait to read more about the decorating you have been doing (that is the funnest part in my opinion). I do enjoy it when you post recipes too. Between you and Tammy, I am getting really hungry. I know I am going to have to try your cookie recipe...soon!

Everything looks SO good!
I enjoy cake decorating and enjoy it very much, due to funding ( and the fact I'm too frugal to sign myself up!)I am unable to take a class 30 minutes away. however my mother blessed me with getting the 3 course booklets Wilton puts out off ebay so I'm picking a bit up here and there as I go along.
Mrs. Wilt, I agree! I prefer to Bake and decorate Our Cakes around here too!
Your food looks so good! Now I understand how badly I torture everyone who reads my blog. ;)
I love reading your anti-procrastination posts, because I just love hearing about your life and seeing pictures! :D
I'm very proud of you, Crystal!! It is a hard thing to do something new. But at least we can do it together. :)
Stick with me, who knows what new and strange skills or experiences lurk just around the corner. Maybe we'll have to really go nuts and take a candy making class soon too! LOL
Oh, and yes, please do share your recipe for Southwest Chicken roll-ups. Today was menu planning day (stressful for me) and I could use some new inspiration for next week. They looked yummy!

I really hope that you post the recipie for the rolls....
My daughter and I have taken the first two Wilton classes, and we loved them. You'll do fine! It really is pretty easy, once you know the techniques involved. Just takes a little practice!
I simply must have the chicken roll-up recipe! Sounds too yummy to this pregnant lady! You wouldn't want me to crave them and have no recipe would you??
I went to a baby shower at church last night. The cake was two layers and gorgeous!! I knew it must have cost a fortune! Guess what? It was made by one of the gals who took a Wilton class! After she told me this I was telling myself "I've gotta take this class!" I hope you have a GREAT time!
I am so happy to see all the great things you are accomplishing because it means you are feeling better!

Mom and I took the first 2 courses of Wilton classes last summer. It's really not as hard as it looks. It just takes practice and a good imagination. :) If you have even the teeniest bit of artistic talent, you'll do absolutely fine! Mom has always made our birthday cakes and now she wonders why she didn't take them earlier. :) It's a lot of fun and will make wonderful memories for your children. Keep us posted! :)
My sil and took the Wilton I Cake Decorating Course at Michaels up here a few years ago. The teacher was super annoying and I ended up not really enjoying the course...it was a long four evenings. :P She actually wasn't even a certified Wilton Instructor but, because she was a cake decorator, they let her teach the course. Hopefully that won't be the case for you.
Have fun!
