Bread-in-a-bag mix

Here's a simple mix I gave out for Christmas presents this year which has gotten rave reviews. It would make a great and easy gift for almost any occasion, any time of the year. Put it in a basket paired with a bean soup mix and a cookie mix, for a complete meal made with mixes!

Whole-Wheat Bread in a Bag Mix

In a resealable plastic bag, mix:

2 cups whole wheat flour (substitute white flour if your recipient would prefer that)

1 tablespoon yeast

In small bag, put:

1 cup whole wheat flour

I packaged both bags in a smaller brown paper lunch sack and attached a decorative label with these instructions:

----------------
Add to the large bag:

2 Tablespoons oil

2 Tablespoons honey

1 cup warm water

Squeeze out the air and reseal the bag. Squeeze the bag with your hands to mix the contents until smooth. Then open and add the little bag of flour. Reseal the bag, squeezing out the air. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes. Then place the bag in a warm place, covered with a kitchen towel. Let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

While the dough is rising, grease your loaf pan. When the dough is ready, punch down with your fists and then take it out of the bag. Put the dough into your bread pan. Cover with a clean dish towel and let rise until double again, about ½ hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. If the crust browns too quickly, cover loosely with a piece of foil.

----------------

Simple, inexpensive, and a fairly unique gift - it works for me!

Thank you Crystal. This is a great idea...and a gift in and of itself for you to share it with us. Since I'm commenting on this post, I'll add my comments on a few of the other posts.

I'm so glad to hear how things are working out...I've been keeping you and your family in my prayers. God is never early and never late...always right on time! Praise Him!

Thanks for all the insights and thoughtful posts and links for New Year's related stuff. I've been blessed by it. Especially the Bible reading plan...whoo hooo! That's awesome! I'm going to share it with hubby tonight and see if we can do that together as a family!

Blessings dear, and happy, sunny, funny days for you!
