Free is always good

Tammy posted a link to The Little Red Hens and from there I found out about the free Food and Family magazine from Kraft Foods.

Of course I am sure that most of the recipes call for some Kraft ingredients (which you could probably easily substitute) but since I love magazines and I love cooking and I especially love free stuff, I couldn't help but sign up. Maybe everyone else already knows about this (I'm usually the last one to find out about stuff like this!), but I thought I'd mention it here anyway.

I found that freebie fairly recently and I enjoy it alot. It is really easy to find ingredients that are not necessarily the brand they want...it is rare you can't substitute. I just wish I could find a freebie sewing magazine!

Hi Crystal,

I've received this magazine for the last couple of years. I think there are 5 issues per year. There are many, many good recipes with beautiful photos. Yes, they do plug their products but I don't feel obligated to use just their products :)

My MIL gets this and I always enjoy looking at it. We already get enough magazines, so I'm content with browsing through it and copying a couple to use. It's very well put together.

I agree, Sommer, I'd LOVE a freebie sewing magazine, too!!

I've been getting this for three or four years and I really like it. Considering that I can't get almost any of the products here in NZ, I've found it very easy to substitute for homemade ingredients. The ideas are great and there are coupons inside too.

I get this as well. I only found out about it a year ago when my husband's coworker sent some back issues home with him for me to read. I hadn't realized that it was free until then. I enjoy reading these. They have lots of easy yummy recipes.

Crystal, I'm a huge fan of this magazine! The recipes are tasty, quick and easy. I have put many in my permanent recipe file. Some of the issues also include a recipe that you can make with your children, to get them interested in cooking. I think you can also get regular e-mails from Kraft with more recipe ideas. I'm all for a nutritious home cooked meal that's also quick and easy!

I get that magazine too. all of the recipes call for the Kraft products, but I always substitute with cheaper things or something home made and it always turns out well. A lot of their recipes are pretty high fat/very starchy so I use them sparingly!

i too like this mag. ironically was reading it and put it down to log on. i like the recipe "ideas". i never use the recipe as they give it because we try to minimize eating processed foods. so when a recipe calls for some low-fat no-fat (no-taste) crapola, i saunter over to the fridge and get my "whole fat" grass fed dairy product (cheese, yogurt, whatever) and amend the recipe. but the ideas are great. saw one today for a spinach and tomato penne pasta number that i'd like to try.

Yes, I've been getting this for a couple of years and there are usually some good recipes hidden among the ones that use boxes of their mac n' cheese, jello and such(though I actually do kind of like that stuff). :) Always lots of good pics that make me hungry! ;-}

Wow! You got ten comments on your post about the free magazine. I only got two. :-) Just kidding, I enjoy your blog. My girls used to read your writings in some magazine...Polished Cornerstones, maybe. Ruth

Great magazine! At the end of the year, they also send out a FREE calendar with yummy recipes. You might have to sign up for the calendar, though, so keep a look out in your inbox in Nov/Dec.
