When you decide all that nausea really was worth it

I felt the baby move last night. Not the weird inside "I-think-that-was-the-baby" movements which I've been having for a little while, but the real deal - little firm kicking which I could feel on the outside with my hand. It makes all the morning sickness totally worth it!
When did you start feeling movement with your pregnancies? 16 weeks, which is what I think I am, seems rather early to me to feel movement on the outside, especially since I think I was 20 weeks or more before that happened last time. Maybe I'm just more attentive this time? Or maybe my dates are wrong?? (Nah, I don't think I'm going to count on that one or even let that thought flitter through my mind. I was two weeks late last time and I'm every bit prepared to be two weeks overdue this time.)

You definitely feel it earlier in your second pregnancy. Not that the baby is more active, but because you can recognize the sensation.
Congratulations!

I felt those first definite kicks sitting in church the first day of my sixteenth week. I was pretty surprised, being that I wasn't even expecting it that early, but there was no mistaking that feeling! As sick as I had been up to that point, it truly did make it all worth it! I wonder if the fact that you are feeling this baby earlier is because he/she is lying in a different position that your baby girl did? I've heard that, as well as the thickness of your uterus can affect when you start to feel the baby...
That's so exciting!!! :)
I felt movement with my first at right about 18 weeks, and at 17 weeks with my second. But it was just the fluttery movements, not the kind you can feel from the outside . . . I wouldn't be surprised if you're a little further ahead than you thought! But I'm sure it's better not to think that . . . that way you would be pleasantly surprised if you went earlier than expected, and not disappointed if you go late. :)
I noticed it much sooner the 2nd & 3rd times. I don't know why...maybe because I knew what to look for?
With all of my babes it has been around the 14th week or so. It is an amazing feeling!
How exciting! Now it will start to feel more real (although I don't think it feels REALLY real until you hold the baby for the first time).
With my first baby, I felt him move at 13 or 14 weeks...very early! He was very active throughout the whole pregnancy and, at 18 mos., is still full of energy all of the time.
With this pregnancy, I didn't feel the baby move until about 22 wks., which was pretty unsettling to me, but my doctor said it was normal. Since then, the baby has moved quite a bit, but not nearly as much as my son did. I'm assuming that means the new baby will be more low key & relaxed, but who knows?!
That's so exciting! By the way, when are you due? I may have just totally missed it, but I'd like to know!!! In Christ, Ruth Ann
I first felt my babies move at almost exactly 1/2 way through (4 1/2 months) But it was just a flutter at first. However, it was earlier with the second and third baby, I guess because the uterus is stretched already. My daughter is expecting in August and is in the nausea part right now. I know she'll be glad when the nausea is over and kicking starts! Debbie J.
that is the most exciting time for me. and yes, it usually happens just after the nausea passes for me too. 16 weeks sounds normal to be able to feel kicks, especially if you're small.
enjoy that time. it's so precious.
With my first I was 18 weeks, and with the other three it was right around 14-15 weeks. My OB didn't believe I could feel it that soon, but what did he know? he'd never been pregnant!!

I felt occassional movement at 15-16 weeks with my 2nd. With my 3rd, I felt movement at 12 weeks and my MIL actually felt it at 13 weeks. Still though, regular movement wasn't felt until 17 weeks.
Congratulations on feeling the little one!
You feel them earlier with each pregnancy. I felt the flutters at about 12 weeks with this one (#4). You should submit these type of posts to the Pregnancy Carnival.
*ashamed* I don't really remember when I felt it for real the first time. what I do remember is how awesome it is to feel that little one inside you. I miss that feeling!!!
The addy shifted from what I originally posted. :-( It was the Pregnancy Calendar that can be clicked from the first addy that opened or copy n paste this one in the address bar. Sorry about the switch!

I felt the first movements around 14 weeks and the first kicks 2 weeks later. I loved feeling him move! I actually used to lounge in bed and "tap on the glass" (poke my belly) just to provoke him to kick back at me! It worked every time :)
I have 5 kids and I've been able to feel movement from the outside anywhere from 13 to 21 weeks. I actually felt my first the earliest, she's still my most active child. My 3rd and 5th were the latest and the 3rd is my most laid back child so far. The 5th is only 4 weeks old, but so far seems pretty calm.
I felt kicks at 14 weeks. Now he's almost 5 months old and still never holds his legs still!
With my first it was about 17 weeks, my second was closer to 16 weeks, with my third it was closer to 18 weeks. But it's an amazing feeling, no matter when it happens.
Personally, I think you feel the baby kicks sooner with your second and beyond....at least that was my experience. Have you heard "beautiful blessing baby's" heartbeat yet???? Have you got a midwife.....if not, I know a great Dr. that HAS midwives and he is WONDERFUL!!!! He is back up to them.
I kinda think it has more to do with personality & temperment of the child than anything. My last 3 were early & vigorous kickers & movers & shakers; interestingly enough - that still defines them at ages 8,3, & 20 months :-)
I didn't feel #7 (due in about 2 months)till well past 20 wks (which was a few wks past most of the all-day sickness) and she (finally, another girl :-) moves so rarely & daintily, compared to the last 3 (my memories get foggy past that) that I am just sure this will be my gentle, calm, easy baby :-)
I can dream.....
Congrats on feeling your little move!
Tracy
That's so exciting! Isn't it wonderful? With my first, I felt it around 17-18 weeks, but light and fluttery. With this one, I felt a bit around 14-15 weeks, but gradually started to feel less and less and we discovered that my placenta was growing into place over the front of my belly, removing my ability to feel the baby. Now that I'm almost 21 weeks I can sometimes feel the baby more distinctly (although the feeling is much deeper inside, towards the back of my uterus, not the front), but even most of the time still I don't feel too much. Apparently that's normal with this kind of placenta location. A bit sad, cause my dh really wants to feel, but as long as baby is healthy, it's ok. :)
That's amazing! I can't imagine what that must feel like - I can't wait to be pregnant some day. Good to hear that you and the baby are well.
Wow! It's amazing how some of you felt movement so soon! So, feeling movement sooner means I'm having a more active baby? Uh-oh! Maybe it's a boy! :)
I've felt movement around 16 weeks will all 5 of mine so far, sometimes it's a real kick, and sometimes it was a fluttery feeling. I think the direction the baby is kicking has something to do with it, as you wouldn't feel as much if baby was kicking towards your back. Congratulations, and I'm sooo glad you're doing well after your scare!
Hi Crystal~
That first time of feeling the baby move within you is so special :-) It makes the pregnancy so much more real and gives little baby a personality. My first I felt at about 22weeks I think. I don't remember with my second, but my third..I felt the flutters around 15-16weeks and then the kicks around 20 weeks. This one tends to be more of a roller and stretcher, although sometimes it feels like he's peddling on a bike :-)
Congratulations again and I am praising God that you are feeling better after your rest! Don't overdue it...if you get tired sit down and snuggle that sweet Kathrynne. You'll feel better in the long run!
Blessings,
Sommer
I felt movement with my forst at 16 weeks and with the second at 12 weeks(probably becuase I knew what to look for!) You definately feel them sooner with the second and sunsequent ones.
That is great news! I am so jealous! :) I am 17 weeks today with my first but I haven't felt anything yet. Maybe soon!
I felt the fluttering with my first child at 15 weeks. I remember it so clearly. It was the middle of the night, I was wide awake hating the feeling of nausea that I had all the time. Then I felt it and I couldn't keep the smile off my face after that! I debated waking up my husband to tell him, but decided against it since he wouldn't be able to feel it anyway.
My second one I didn't feel until about 24 weeks and it really worried me. It was a big relief when I started to feel it and he turned out to be a very active boy after that!
Such special memories!
I felt my second baby at 11 weeks! I thought I was nuts but after asking around, it seems that's not impossible. He was big so it may be that he was just big from the start.
This third baby I didn't start feeling quite that early. But seeing the baby on ultrasound was cool too. At 8 weeks along, baby was very active already and trying to avoid the u/s wand. :D
I felt movement around 20 weeks w/all 3 of my pregnancies.
Crystal,
I felt my first move at 16 weeks also.
Jen
I actually felt all four of mine right at 16 weeks. But, here's a little hope - I was nice and late for all the first three and then was completely surprised to go into labor two weeks early with my fourth. EVERYTHING was in the attic - I was so not expecting a baby that night. :)
I felt movement around 22 weeks with my first, and at 16 weeks with my second. So no, I'm pretty sure you're not too early!
Hi Crystal,
I felt it at 16 weekw with my first and 15 weeks with the 2nd and third. So it is not too early! Enjoy those little stirrings of life!
