Lest you think I have a perfect child

I was on the phone with Jesse late yesterday afternoon and I couldn't help but report what a wonderful daughter Kathrynne had been that day. Not only had she taken a lot of initiative, and said, "Yes, please!" on her own, but she had only wet her pants twice in the whole day.
After going on and on to him, it occurred to me that this wonderful daughter of mine was nowhere to be seen - always a cause for some moderate concern with an active two-year-old. I did a quick sweep of the house and found her with none else than a blue marker. And, you guessed it, she was covered in head-to-toe with blue marker. Not only that, but every single carpeted step to our upstairs, minus two, also had a picture drawn on it in blue marker - courtesy of my wonderful daughter.
I just had to laugh. What was that I was thinking about being such a good parent? Oh, and for the record, the marker was a dry erase marker and it did come out - thankfully!

I think even the "perfect" child if they have any kind of active imagination will do things like this! I had permanent markes instead of dry erase which are very hard to remove!
I gasped until you said it was a dry eraser!!
Our daughter put black all over her face-thankfully a good shower and a little bit of elbow grease made her very clean!!
You don't know me, (though I'm on the Sense and Sensibility Board) but I really enjoy reading your blog, and your last post made me laugh. You see, when I was little, I took a blue marker and did the same thing while I was supposed to be napping. I don't remember doing it, but my mom told me that the books, the carpet, the walls (and me of course) were covered in blue marker. There is a hilarious picture of me in my scrapbook--even my teeth were blue. :) Did you take a picture so that Kathrynne and you can laugh about it years later? I know we did. :)
I'm glad you were able to get most of the markings out. I'm not so sure we had as much luck with our books.

Keep the Sharpies in a locked cabinet! I LOVE washable markers. Our problem occurred when we read "Harold and the Purple Crayon" and my 3 year old realized she had a purple crayon too. We have been very careful to not let our other children near that book at the library.
Crystal, you have a little Monet growing up! :)
I remember growing up I had dark blue carpet in my bedroom and I wrote on it with chalk. My mom wasnt so lucky when it came to my younger sisters...one of them wrote on her tan carpeting with permanent black marker and the other drew on the wall paper with orange crayon-I hope you took a picture!
We once stayed at a cousin's newly built and not yet painted duplex beach rental(he was an Ocean City, NJ developer). Needless to say the vitamin that we thought had long gone to the tummy of our son was used nicely(he thought) to doodle on a bedroom wall(a first and last for that child...smiles!). We scrubbed to no avail(wet vitamins soak into unpainted plaster too well!) and were thankful for the gracious spirit of family with children of their own. Memories. :-)
I'd posted parenting/shepherding tidbits on my blog earlier this morning if anyone is interested; how timely was that! :-)
What a moment! :) I am glad you were able to get the marker drawings off the stairs.
I enjoyed reading everyone else's comments as well...some of them are just so funny and brightened my evening!
