I tell you, pregnancy does the weirdest things to one's body.

I was so tired last night and yet, I was up for at least half the night unable to sleep. After an hour or so of tossing and turning, trying to relax, and praying for all sorts of things, I finally got up and read for a couple hours. That usually puts me right to sleep, but not last night.

All the while I couldn't sleep, I was feeling miserably sick to my stomach (probably one of the reasons I couldn't sleep in the first place) and yet I was craving hasbrown casserole like you wouldn't believe. I probably could have gotten up and eaten four servings of the stuff if we had had any in the house! And then I would have been really sick and unable to sleep!

Ah the joys of being a pregnant woman! You just never know quite what to expect - except to expect the unexpected.

Hmmmm...what's in a hashbrown casserole that your body might have needed? Carbs? Eggs for protein? That craving thing is strange, isn't it? I never had it with my four pregnancies, but I know people who have.
At least you weren't craving something weird like chocolate-covered ants!

Preach it sister!;). I find at times I have the weirdest insomnia (29 weeks). The other problem, when I wake up to go to the bathroom at 4:30 am if I have a slightly stuffy nose, I can't go back to sleep. This is in spite of the fact I am still exhausted. Then I am about to pass out by 10 am:(. This happened twice last week.

Without a doubt pregnancy is a weird, weird time. I'm sick yet hungry, exhausted yet I can't sleep, starving yet nothing sounds good... It's just weird:)

OH dear, I do remember that! My doctor joked that it was my body preparing me for what was to come...

On the plus side, if it makes you feel better, I had a horrible dream last night, and was up for a couple hours too....

Totally off subject, but I have a question. What is your stand on immunizations? I'm a paranoid new mom!

I know what you mean. I pretty much feel the same way Shannon feels, sick yet hungry. When I go to fix something to eat I find that nothing sounds appealing. Even pizza, my old stand-by, isn't appetizing anymore. Very strange time indeed!

Not being able to sleep is all a part of the nesting phase, I say.

I remember having to call into work a couple of times because at 5:30 in the morning I still hadn't been able to sleep. Within an hour of calling I'd fall asleep and get up about 11 and head to work for the rest of the day (I work 12 hour shifts). Not fun but definitely worth it 2 years later. He's the best loss of sleep ever!

Anonymous: Since immunizations is such a hot topic and one which I believe every family should make an informed decision based upon their own unique situation, I prefer not to discuss it on my blog. :) However, you are more than welcome to email me and if I have a chance, I'll try and share what we've chosen to do.

Michelle - if only I were in the modd to clean my house as part of the nesting. :)

Crystal,

You know I do know how you feel. My night was the night before. I felt like if I could actually go to sleep I would be in such a heavenly deep sleep, but my body and mind wouldn't let me. So, all weekend I have been really crabby. I am trying hard to be loving, but it is a moody time right now and I guess it is because of the lack of FULL SLEEP.

Craving hashbrown casserole? I was craving potato soup earlier today and I am not even pregnant. LOL! Must be something in the air. ;)

I was also craving mashed potatoes and fried chicken last week. Maybe I need to pull out a cookbook. :)

I am going through the same thing, Crystal. I know how arduous birth and the first few weeks after birth are, so it is frustrating that I am up so much now. Maybe it is a good way to prepare us for our future lack of sleep! Blessings!

I forgot to mention one thing which really helped me, which is walking. Unless I walk an hour or two in the evening, I don't sleep very well. I hope that helps!
