Better than potato chips
Kathrynne and I made Puppy Chow this morning for a quick treat for some guests we're having later on this week. I haven't made it in years and it was probably not the best idea since I'm trying to stay away from chocolate (it aggravates my reflux) but boy oh boy is that stuff addictive! I'm just sure that it's got to have some sort of good nutrition in it, don't you think?! Um, yeah.I've hid it in the freezer for now so that it's not sitting out on the countertop calling out, "Just one more piece." Like potato chips, you can't eat just one!

I have not made puppy chow in ages! How fun!
I feel for you on the reflux. When I was expecting my little one, I had horrible reflux all throughout my last trimester. I tried everything, but nothing would work. Somebody suggested I eat some papaya. I had been trying the papaya enzyme tablets, but they were not as much help as the real fruit itself. Even the papaya would not help one day when I simply HAD to have orange juice. Ouchy!
Thanks, Mrs. Brigham - my reflux has been so much worse this time than last and nothing - not even the strong prescription I'm on for it - seems to be helping much. (The prescription has helped so that I'm not up leaning over the toilet for a few hours every night like I was, but it's still quite bad!) Papaya does nothing for me either - ack! And the bad thing is that I'm supposed to be trying to pull up my hemoglobin and so having vitamin C with iron really helps your body absorb the iron better. But the vitamin C kicks off my reflux like crazy.
It's sort of that last month pregnancy thing where you do one thing to help one thing and it makes another problem flare up. I think God causes it to be this way so that we become mighty anxious to go into labor - so much so that we don't care if the labor hurts really badly!! :)
At least there is an end in sight, though, and I admit to starting to anxiously await that end, especially as more and more things start to hurt. Only 5-7 more weeks maximum!
Sorry to hear about your reflux. I hope the weeks will pass quickly for you.
Okay, please stop posting such yummy recipes. :) I went out to buy stuff for your dip today, and now I am thinking chocolate!
Crystal I am with you about Puppy Chow being addicting! My mom use to make it whenever I had friends over and one time a bunch of us silly girls ate so much that we got sick. Ah the middle school years! Any how, I do make it occasionally but also store it in the freezer for safe keeping.
I did not realize you were so close to the end already! How exciting! I will be keeping you and Baby ? in my prayers. Maybe your newest little blessing might surprise you and come a bit earlier than Kathrynne did. :o)
I was only pregnant for eight months, so I am hopeful/anxious to experience that last month of pregnancy sometime in the future, Lord willing. I do love your thoughts about God's pre-labor plan! I remember spending the first part of my pregnancy terrified about the birth, but being so very excited at the end that I did not even think about the painful experience ahead of me.
I do hope you are feeling better at least a teeny bit better soon.
how many boxes is 18 cups, does any one know...
thanks

I'm about 35 weeks - and I can hardly believe it sometimes, too! Since I went 2 weeks late with Kathrynne, I'm planning to at least be somewhat late this time around. I've made myself promise I will not expect to have this baby one day before 40 weeks but as the due date looms closer, that's getting a little harder to do. At least I've made it this far. :)
I just used one box, Celina - it was a larger box of off-brand chex. It was around 14 cups or so and it worked fine for me.
That stuff is great! My hubby is always asking me to make it! :)
Wow, that Puppy Chow looks sooo good. :-) I haven't made it in about a year, but I just might have to do that soon. :-) (And it helps that I'd be sharing with 12 other people - no need to store any in the freezer that way. ;-))
I'm in the camp who hadn't realized you were quite so close to the end! God bless you. :-)
Oh yeah! Puppy chow is wonderful and very addictive. My 16 yo had 3 friends over recently and they made and ate an entire batch!
Wahhh! Now I want puppy chow, too! AND your nacho dip. I need energy so I can cook all these things I want to eat! LOL ;)
Puppy chow, or muddy buddies as we call them, makes a great gift! I always include it as part of my Christmas cookie bags that we give as gifts. :) My family loves it.
I have a ton of peanut butter but no chocolate chips. I guess I'll be asking my hubby to stop at the store tonight! :-)
I'm not pregnant, but have found that I get "nursing cravings".
Would you share your puppt chow recipe? I know I am sure I don't need it either but my kids would love this for a snack throughout the week. Is it expensive to make?

Puppy chow has peanut butter, which is protein; and if it's corn chex, that's a vegetable. =) After all...chocolate is even made from cocoa BEANS! LOL So puppy chow has to have some good kind of nutrition. ;)
Have a great day!
