Devastating consequences
It's not often that the mainstream media mentions abortion, let alone mentioning anything like the devastating and lasting consequences it can have on a woman's life. All of that just gets shoved under the rug in the name of "freedom of choice."
That's why I was quite surprised to see this heart-wrenching video from CNN. Though they did seem to try to focus more on the "horrible morning sickness and pregnancy" part, the fact that CNN even covered a woman's immense regret over having an abortion and that she was not given other options or more information was definitely out of the ordinary. My heart goes out to this woman and I am grateful she is standing up and sharing her story.

It is wonderful that this woman is telling others! Too many times abortion is presented as a solution to a "problem" that has no concequences.
It must be overwhelming difficult to step out in the midst of the shame and embarrassment, but more women that have had abortions need share their stories about the awful aftermath of abortion. If it prevents just one woman from ending her baby's life, it will be worth it.

That is so sad. I feel very badly for this woman. She must have felt incredibly desperate to end that little life. When I worked women's health in nursing we routinely had patients with hyperemesis gravidum. It IS very treatable. One can get rehydration by IV, try prescription meds, and many other alternatives. I would guess her hallucinations were due to an electrolyte imbalance. Those can be corrected also.
I won't begin to imagine how difficult it would be to endure such a problem having never been pregnant, but there are certainly options out there.
What a blessing that she was able to have other children. Many women become infertile after a single abortion due to infection or scarring.
One other thing, I think hyperemesis can be very socially isolating. Even some of the nurses I worked with would get annoyed or angry with women who seemed to use it as an excuse for everything.
It takes much patience and understanding to help these women in their need. One can't really know what another is feeling unless you have been there before or can climb inside her body. The former of which is never exact and the latter being impossible.
Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing with us.
My sister had hyperemesis gravidum with her second pregnancy. She was in and out out of the emergency room several times her first trimester. They just kept telling her "You're just pregnant". a couple of times she was given I.V. fluids, and anti nausea meds, but usually they just sent her home to deal with it. At 14 weeks she finally ended up in the hospital with an irregular heartbeat and spent several days on heart monitors. She was STRONGLY encouraged to abort. They even told her that something must be wrong with the baby or she wouldn't have been so sick. Then they gave her all sorts of horror stories about what damage the anti- nausea meds could have caused the baby. She refused the abortion, so I have a wonderful, healthy nephew, but she spent the rest of her pregnancy on a PIC line and had her tubes tied before he was even an hour old.
I'm so glad someone is finally paying attention to this condition. Maybe we can start offering these women some help and support, instead of treating them like wimps who can't handle a little morning sickness.
I had hyperemesis with my first pregnancy. It went on for ages because all the doctors didn't treat me at all. I was unable to even keep water down.
In my second pregnancy, in a different district, I was treated properly - rehydrated and given vitamins intravenously, and it was taken seriously, and the pregnancy was much better.
When I was expecting one of my children, a woman opposite me was in the ward to have an abortion because of hyperemesis.
The pro-abortion crowd talk so much about 'choice'. If it wasn't an option to kill your child, then the medical profession would have to actually deal with the issue, instead of the distrastrous consequence of a woman deciding to have her child killed.
The same thing is true in the euthanasia issue. Palliative care and pain management would be afforded much more interest if certain people weren't so hell-bent on just killing as a solution.
I saw her story yesterday too, and it made me cry, because you could see how much it had effected her and how much she wants to help people in the same situation. I really respect her and her husband's decision to write a book about it, so that they can help other women that would never have known about this and could have made the same decision. This book may have saved many women from a life long sorrow.
Take care,
Leigh
This is so very sad. My mom saw this and passed it on to me with the comment "I don't think that she was half as sick as you." With both my boys I spent 6 weeks of the pregnancy in hospital on IV only and none of the medicines or my natural (homeopathic) treatments worked for me, I tried many different things, in all I was bed ridden for at least 20 weeks and only being truly better after delivering both of them. All this to say, I can remember thinking while I was in bed and suffering, that if I didn't have a moral compass and know right from wrong I could see how people might consider this as an option. I pray for this lady it must be heartbreaking.
I pray that this woman will find healing in Christ - He's the only one who will be able to comfort her in her sorrow and guilt. I would love to see her full of hope as she continues to teach about HG, instead of grief!
Thanks for sharing this! We simply worship our doctors way too much! If we do not get a good answer, we need to search further! The internet is an excellent research tool, for which I am grateful. It is in part a little bit of what has helped with my grandson who has quite a few health issues. So sad this lady was not aware of better options.
