New from Noble Womanhood!

Jennifer McBride just recently sent me a copy of their brand-new ebooklet, Noble Womanhood, a beautiful collection of quotes upholding the nobility of home and the woman's role as a keeper of her home. You will be inspired, refreshed, and blessed by reading through this lovely little book. What's more, they are offering this ebook at a special introductory price of only $2.99!

Jennifer says:
We are delighted to offer this collection of quotes on the beauty, honour and nobility of Biblical womanhood. If you are in need of encouragement in your roles as a wife, mother and homemaker (or an at-home daughter), the quotes in this little book, from time past and present, will inspire you and renew your vision. In a society that looks down on Scriptural womanhood and sees the woman at home as being of little value, this collection offers a refreshing look at the true worth of womanhood lived according God's beautiful pattern.

Crystal, I don't want to sound harsh or mean in what I am about to say but I have really been thinking a lot this topic - the keepers at home topic. While I agree that God's design may indicate that women are to be keepers at home I do not think that is ALL that he intended that women could be. Remember, always, that we live, unfortunately, in a fallen world.

Here is my question: My mother is in her fifties. My father left when I was about 2, and I am now close to 30. She became a christian when I was about 4. She had NO CHOICE but to go out and work. I have seen on here before where it has been suggested that the church support women in her situation. Do you know HOW MANY women are in that situation? The church CANNOT keep up with that and the other financial commitments it has - including such important things as missions and giving to the needy in a community.

Based on what I have read on here - are you suggesting that women in my mother's situation just try to work on a craft from home and earn an actual income to support their family in this way? That just won't work! By God's grace, my mother was able to get her masters degree and support all of us - in this day and age with homes costing what they do, food, etc - even just the bare necessities we cannot in all honesty and with a clear conscious possibly expect the church to support able-bodied women such as my mother.

Do I wish that her life were different and my father were around to support us/ her (when I was growing up) - sure. But I am very proud of her for creating a wonderful home and always tithing and giving generously. She could not have tithed and given generously had she expected others to take care of her.

This is where I see this 'keepers at home' line of thought not being fully thought out - there are a LOT of women in my mother's situation. If they choose to not pursue education beyond high school, then many of them will not be able to support their familes.

Something to think about....

My first question: How big is your God? If He calls a young woman to not go to college, can He not be faithful to provide for her?
You need to listen to the workshop I just did on "What to Do While Waiting for Prince Charming" where I really flesh these ideas out for young women. Email me and I'll send you the link with my compliments.

In a nutshell:

I'm all for raising responsible daughters, for equipping and training them to be frugal, creative, educated, financially responsible, and entrepreneurial. What I do not believe is that we need to follow the world's methods to accomplish God's means. We need to start thinking outside the box.

Yes, we live in a fallen world and yes, some women will have to work. However, by making wise choices now and diligently training and preparing our daughters, I believe that very few of them will need to be working full-time outside the home as mommies no matter what circumstances they are in.

I can't speak for every situation, but I can speak for my own. I didn't go to college and yet, when my husband and I went through some very financially lean times during law school, the Lord provided for us. He gave us creative means to stretch the little we had as far as it could go, He provided in the form of gifts from others (we never made our needs known to anyone but God), and He provided in the form of giving me many different things I could do to earn money from home.

You may not realize it, but with the advent of the internet, there are SO MANY possibilities for women to earn a good income from home if need be. I've been amazed to learn about the possibilities which are out there! It's a huge wide open market.

For those of you who say, "That will never work" I say, "Have you tried?" Start asking the Lord for wisdom and direction and you will see Him provide, Him open up doors, and Him give creativity and opportunities beyond what you ever thought possible. I know this, because this is my story. I've lived it. I've had to trust God when we didn't have money to pay our bills. I've seen Him be faithful. And I know He will not only be faithful for us, He can be faithful for you, too. But you have to step out in faith and let Him be faithful. You have to start thinking positively and instead of saying, "It will never work" you have to step out and trust God and see Him do great and mighty things on your behalf.

There's so much more I could say on this, but if you haven't already, I encourage you to get a copy of my recent workshop where I really delve into this (there's a link on the sidebar to the audios). If you can't afford it, I'll gladly send it to you free of charge. Just email me.

Crystal, I just wanted to say thank you for your response to my post (the one about my mother being a single mom here above)....I wasn't sure what you would say to that, and I really did not mean it to be at all unpleasant (the internet is hard to communicate tone) - but you are very thoughtful in your response and I appreciate you taking the time to answer - I think you gave practical ideas/ answers - as well as ideas that will spur a deeper faith in God. My mother and I (now that I am grown and in my own home) and family may not be able to use your ideas - but hopefully these ideas will work for a family in a similiar situation.
