A shot in the arm

Yes, we got to meet him, and his wife, too!. (Too bad Kathrynne was looking down in the one picture we got!)

We only had to wait in line with all the other thronging fans for 2 hours to do so. But it was worth the wait.

And we needed the "shot in the arm" live event with 10,000 other passionately-on-fire-about- their-finances people the next day as well. Sometimes it is easy to fall into a rut or to get lax or to forget why we're being so weird in the first place.

Now we're all fired up to keep driving that very used car without any air-conditioning, packing the lunches for Jesse to take to work everyday, paying with cash, and scrimping all we can. It will pay off someday in the not-too-distant future. For now, we'll keep living like no one else, so someday we can live like no one else!

I drive right by his Ramsey's office everytime I go to my OB (which was a lot when I was 2 weeks overdue) and once his assistant came and spoke at a women's home I helped run so it is just funny to me to think of someone I consider 'local' drawing that big a crowd. Thats good, though, as our sickly in debt country needs any help it can get.

I wish Ramsey would take his lessons to our President and budget-makers. They need to hear what he has to say.

What an awesome picture to cherish! I am glad you got to meet him.
I used to be kind of stingy when it came to finances and have really slacked off since DH came back from Iraq 7 months ago. I guess it's time to go back to my thriftiness, huh? ;/
God Bless

Okay, so help me understand what exactly you are skimping for? Do you give your extra money to further God's word or are you saving for something in particular? I think it's great to save, but basically, our reward is in heaven, not here on earth.

Anonymous: Yes, our treasure is in heaven, but we have to live on this earth for a short time and we believe that we are called to be wise stewards of what God has given us.

Not sure if you've been around here much, but I've touched on this at length. The short answer is that in addition to tithing and giving (which is our first priority) right now, we are currently saving as much as possible from our modest income to purchase a home debt- free in about six years, Lord-willing.

Our long-term savings goals include being able to save well for our children and grandchildren and invest money now so that, after some years of compounded interest, we are not only not dependent upon social security (which I doubt will be around by the time I would qualify for it), but that we are also able to give away money to all sorts of wonderful causes.

Our hope is that we can be wise now while we're young and while we can more easily scrimp and save, so that later on, we can still live on a modest income and have the ability to even do much more to bless others financially.

If you're not familiar with Dave Ramsey, some of the above might seem weird. That's okay - people often think we're weird. But, by the grace of God, we've been living this way since marriage and we have no debt and are now able to put what most people would be spending on paying off their exorbitant student loans (remember that my husband graduated from law school last year and believe me, law school ain't cheap!), towards giving and savings.

So yes, people can call us weird, but I say it's worth it.

I love that line;live like no one else, so someday we can live like no one else! It keeps me motivated.

My hubby always reply with "Better than I deserve" whenever he is asked how he is...we are in Canada and I don't think as many people have heard of Dave Ramsey here, so we are looking forward to the day when someone recognize that reply.

It must have been so encouraging to be at the live event.

What a great picture, Crystal! I am glad that hearing him speak was such a motivation. It is so wise to go without certain luxories now, so that you can enjoy great things later. Blessings!

Great picture of you three with Dave and his wife!

And, I too like your statement, “For now, we'll keep living like no one else, so someday we can live like no one else!”

My wonderful dad words your statement another way that’s great too, “We do today what others won’t, to have tomorrow what others can’t.”

Thanks for the continued encouragement to glorify God through our finances Crystal. I’m learning a lot!!!

I am so jealous! We took FPU last year and loved it. We were already working on baby step 3 when we started it. It was very motivational. The thing is we are still very much stuck on baby step #3. We can't seem to get our EF even half way funded. I would love to be able to go to a live event - it would be wonderful motivation I am sure. I wonder when he will be in cleveland? I am glad you enjoyed it!
