I guess Kathrynne decided we didn't have enough excitement at our home this week.
I was downstairs a little while ago working on getting some final business packages ready to ship out before the baby comes. Kathrynne was in the same room playing contentedly, er, so I thought.
After a bit, I noticed she was being awfully quiet and, upon further investigation, saw she was into one of my stockpile boxes (the boxes that contain all my extra free after rebates or free after coupon items which I'm saving to give away or sell). Since I didn't have my contacts in, I called her over to me to see what she had in her hands.
It was then that I noticed her hair was coated in a thick shampoo-like substance.
And in her hands? An opened box of this:
Yes, my friends, today of all days, my two-year-old decided she would experiment with hair coloring for the first time.
Gratefully, upon further investigation, I realized she had managed to smear her head with the Step 3 glaze which turned out to just be a conditioning gloss. Had she picked either of the other tubes to smear on, we would now have a little red head or, worse had she mixed two of the tubes on her hair. I don't want to think what could have happened to her skin or eyes had she gotten into the other stuff.
As it was, I washed it and blow dried it and it appears no harm was done. This time, at least.
What will she come up with next? Sometimes being a mom can be so stressful! You try so hard to be careful, to keep all the dangerous things out of reach, to think ahead as to what the worst case scenario in any given situation might be as you are sure your child will think of it. And then, they go right under your nose and do something like this! What can I say? I really am trying. Being a mom certainly keeps me constantly praying to the Lord for wisdom, for clear thinking, and for protection for my oversight!
Needless to say, all hair coloring kits are now going to be stored on a high out-of-reach shelf.

You are very lucky. If any of that color got into the little ones eyes it would of hurt very much. Arn't you very, very thankful for gardian angels who watch over our babies?
I am laughing with you!!! Because well you know the last nine months haven't been the upmost, lets say easy for either of us. I have been so sick as well and feeling so much pressure and weakness in my entire body. So, I was trying to finish up some cleaning before I get so tired before next Tuesday morning for my C-section. I thought Hannah was cooking at her little kitchen which I set up to entertain her while I did some mopping and she was soooo quite and I went to check on her and some how she has now figured out to open the bathroom door and she ate toothpaste and was covered in lotion from head to toe. I would have laughed but since she has been doing very strange and stressful things the last few days that is so not like her I have to say I was sooo fustrated. I am thankful she isn't hurt and didn't get into anything worse. But I am still stressed. AHHHHHH!

Oh goodness! Thank the Lord that He was watching out for Kathrynne so she did not become injured from the hair color!
Isn't it just astounding at what a few quiet moments can be a sign of? My little girl just realized that she can crawl to boxes of tissue, pull them down from a table, and tear them up and throw them all around. I was gone for just a second to answer the phone and came back to that papery mess.
ROFL! Oh no! You just brought back all those memories of the days when being too quite was a really bad thing. With my girls, I wouldn't walk to investigate, I'd run full force because their messes were HORRIBLE!
Speaking of her interest in her own hair already, I just thought I'd remind you to hide all the scissors. I wish someone would have told me this with my oldest. It took 2 years to get her hair to grow out completely. Hide those puppies for the next 3 years...actually, hide them until the youngest is at least 5, LOL!
These things are funny in retrospect aren't they? I'm thankful with you that she didn't get into the dye portions of the package. If she had (and wasn't hurt of course) it would have made quite the story to tell later at a graduation or wedding. "Kathrynn dyed her hair for the first time at age 2..."
I'll be thinking of and praying for your family tomorrow.
:)

I agree with Mrs.Brigham, the Lord was watching over Kathrynne.Of course this all seems worse because of the upcoming baby.
Take care an dlook forward to the new baby pictures SOON!!
Just wait till you have a boy! They are entirely different. My son (seven now) has gotten himself in situations that don't come close to anything my girls did at the same age. He really keeps me on my toes. I'm glad your little one was okay. Best wishes and prayers for you tomorrow.
Oh, yes, it sounds like some of the normal things that happen! The other night i had put my 2 year old to bed and went to turn off the computer, got distracted and then heard some noise from the kitchen, I went to check and here he was with a small frying pan, carton of eggs, and a spatula. He had broken about 7 eggs arleady into the pan that fast, and what was amazing was there was pretty much no shells and none on the carpet!
It is always so wonderful to me when I realize how much worse it could have been and how God protected them!
That is such a great Kathrynne story!!! I'm laughing too and praising the Lord with you that she got into "step 3." Whew... also, just wanted to remind you again that you are in my prayers!
((Crystal)) ~ Children (and toddlers most especially) have a way of reminding us how much we need God's grace. No matter how hard we try as moms there are going to be those times ... I also imagine that Kathrynne is very sensitive to the excitement going on around her right now. Her life *is* getting ready to stand on it's ear (never to be the same again!). :o)
lol ~ At least you know your heart is healthy - now that it's back in your chest beating at a normal speed! ;o)
Quiet always makes me nervous!!!
Oh Crystal, i can so relate! last thursday while everyone including Mommy was having some much needed rest time my 5 yr. old son(3rd child) decided his bangs were too long so he "trimmed"them! to the hairline! the only thing i could do was to give him a crew cut! he looks adorable but i loved his bangs! now we call him Teddy Bear Head because his hair feels like teddy bear fur! :) He is quite a funny guy. by the way, did you notice if Kathrynne's hair was especially soft and shiny after her Nice and Easy adventure? LOL:) Continuing to pray for you all! Can't wait to hear about your new baby! blessings, Jen in Al
Ah, yes. Those quiet moments. After four children I've learned to be on alert for those quiet moments ;). In our home they have meant... artwork glued to the walls with a gluestick, every roll of crepe paper we own unrolled in the living room, a toddler covered in permanent marker and found another time busily eating something they shouldn't be...like a candle...just to name a few.
And yet, I still love the toddler stage and it gives me fun stories to tell them later...during the smaller ones nap times, I don't want to give them any more ideas 8)!
You know, Kathrynne must be very smart. At least she figured out what was in the box needed to go on her head! I'd say that's pretty smart for someone who's two. God was definitely looking out for her.
I'm glad she was okay and nothing serious happened! I'm sure that was quite a scare for you! I hope your stress level is back down to normal again ;)
