Cash for your books
Do you have any books lying around that you no longer use or need? I found a link yesterday for a program that pays you cash for many such books and they pay for the shipping, too! Check it out here.
If anyone has used this program before, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I usually sell our extra books on Half.com, but it often takes a long time for them to sell, if they sell at all, so the possibility of getting paid right away sounds great.
By the way, being the entrepreneurial sort of person I am, I'm always coming across different money-making ideas that wives and moms can do from home. I've been tossing around the idea of doing a whole series of posts on the subject. Is this something there would be an interest in?

I would most definetly be interested! I often hear from wives and moms that they have to go to work because there is no other way to supplement their husband's income.
Lynn
Yes, please share. Thank you.
YES PLEASE SHARE THEM!!!!!
I would love it!
I would be very interested! By the way my hubby and I sold some old text books to a different company that paid for shipping as well. I was a little skeptical but we got a check today for $33 which isn't bad for the 2 books that were just taking up space on our bookshelf!
Yes Please! I am an "Almost" High School graduate and am going back and forth on whether to go into the workforce or stay at home and not work. My parents don't care either way, but I would love some ideas!
Your post just reminded me that I never got back to you about this very subject. So sorry about that! I think it would be a wonderful topic that could help so many. That is a gift of yours that I am sure would bless many others.
Some (& I mean myself), are not so naturally inclined. ;)
Yes, ma'am!
Yes, Please!
Of course girl, I have metioned to you before you should do a blogging for business course. I would be the first to sign up!
Please, do the series!
I think that there are a lot of women who would be interested in this.
Crystal,
Hey again! I had 11 books sitting here that I was getting ready to sell and so I tried out the website. All are recent (in the last year or two) Christian bestsellers and out of 11, they only wanted to buy 1 for $1.45 Maybe someone with alot of textbooks would make more. It looks like that is what they buy a lot of. Thanks for the info anyway :0) Erica
Yes, please share--I would love to even get step by step details on simply building a website--I know you need to buy domain names, get hosted but I am not sure how to do what you have done--interconnect a web page to a blog---then how to put up adds on your sites--I know of some affilate companies but it would be nice to get someone to teach these simple basic things that are general enough for anyone to build off of on launching a buisness--from a trusted person like you I would even pay for that simple bit of info :)
I would love to hear your ideas for stay at home moms and wives to make money. Blessings!
Crystal,
Although I'm nowhere near being a wife or mother yet, I would really think that would be a great idea! I love looking at things for ideas for later even though I'm still pretty young. :)
Blessings!
Dustynne
yes I would be very interested!
Ummm....YES!!! We need these ideas!
Yes! Thanks!
I'm always looking to make a buck or two. I've bookmarked "cash for books."
This would be the Lord's answer to a prayer for me right now. My husband is possibly facing surgery soon and I have been praying to the Lord about how we will face the loss of his hours from work.
Yes! My son and daughter-in-law have a new daugther (2 1/2 months of age) and she has decided not to return to work, but their family could really use some extra income. She is very bright and could excel at whatever she puts her mind to. Your ideas could be very beneficial!
would definitely love to hear about this. We've just moved to the States and my husband is doing a master's degree while working full-time and I would love to help our budget out with something I can do from home. By the way, I often only have a few minutes to read blogs and I always check yours first because it's so practical!
Yes! My 17 year old daughter needs suggestions.
I would certainly be interested! :-)
Yes, yes, YES!!! Please do a series on it! :-)
Yes, I'd be 100% interested, Crystal!!! :-)
Thanks for the tip about the Cash4Books site. I am sending 13 books out to them today and will receive a total of almost $40.00 in return. I was going to sell many of these at an upcoming garage sale, and we may have received only about $5-$10 for the same books.
I'd be interested Crystal! I would love to find a way to help bring some extra money into our home:-)

Hmmm...I will be in the minority with my comment here, for sure, but I love all your blog entries where you help us "save" more money instead of "earn" more money. In my experience, when I try to earn more money, many of the little details of homekeeping go by the wayside. Love from Susan, mama of 8 (ages 15, 13, 11, 9,6,4,2,4months...1 girl followed by 7 boys)
I too would definitely be interested in a series of posts on ideas for money-making things that moms and wives can do from home! I am getting married next month (I am so excited!) and I will be starting a part time job at our church next week (about 15 hours/week). We are also doing a paper route for extra income (we can bag all the papers-ads and such- at home, then deliver them Wednesday evening and Saturday morning). My soon-to-be husband and I would love for me to be able to stay at home and not even have the job at church, but to make ends meet while we are waiting to see where he will get a more permanent job (he studied to be a pastor) I will need to do this. Our insurance costs are $400+ a month right now and that is what is putting us in ths situation (we must have insurance b/c I have type 1 diabetes).
But I would sure be interested in this post series! Please do it! I have learned so much already from your posts and website, and I'm sure that this will be just as valuable!
Thanks for the website! I only had a couple of books that they buy, but it is a great resource!
I think it is good to post ways to really make money for moms at home, because it is something we all need to do, but the problem is some of the things take up so much of your time they are not worth it.
But every little bit counts!
I would love that series! I'm currently trying to earn extra from home as well, and it has to be something that can't take tons of extra time, since I'm also working outside the home until January.
I looked into Cash4books and found that it will be great for my sons' college textbooks. However, they don't have a need for my homeschool/Christian books. Does anyone know of a book buyer similar to this for homeschool books? If not, this would be a great business for someone.
Valerie
Yes please, Crystal! I'm sure you're full of great ideas.
Jennifer
I would love to see a series on this. Though I am not married, I could definitely use some ideas. And I have a friend who is married that would love to hear them.
Looking forward to it...
I have been selling books on Amazon since 2001. If you work at it, there's money in it. It does require searching out books - lots of time out of the house. I now use it just to sell off my own books, and any I happen across at the thrift stores.
It's always nice to find new ways to make a little extra money. It's much like searching out and using coupons. It may be a dollar here and there, but it adds up.
Crystal,
Thank you for that link!
Did you notice in the "Books we do not accept" one of the books listed is "most Bibles". I used to work at a local library's used book sale twice a year, and someone mentioned to me that religious books/Bibles do not sell well.... So sad!!! ~I too am interested in any of your tips! I have learned so much from your blog/ always feel I pale in comparision to you! ~K~
Crystal,
I would LOVE for you to do a series on your ideas of how to supplement from home. That would be great!!
I think the general answer to that question is a resounding, yes!
Rather than trying to sell our books for cash (with the attendant problems that others have mentioned), I use PaperBackSwap.com. I pay to ship them to someone, get a "credit", then use that to order another book we need from anyone else there! This has been great for family reading materials, Christian books, homeschool books, and everything else... You even get 3 free credits just for signing up and listing your first 9 books for swapping.
If you do join, please use me as a referral, and I get a bonus credit! :) My username is tiffanyblitz.
Enjoy!
I would be interested.
Kendra
I would love to hear any ideas on how to make money from home. Please share!
I agree that work-at-home info would be great. I have tried for many years to find *my thing* that would bring in some money, including cleaning houses/offices and direct sales. Neither is *my thing*:) I look at all the work-from-home ads but am very skeptical. I don't want to spend money for some abstract ideas on how I can start a home business. I need concrete information. WHAT exactly are these people selling besides abstract info? HOW does a website make money? WHAT could I do for a home business? I need someone to start at the BEGINNING. I feel as though there is some basic info, some secret, that others have and I don't. I know that sounds crazy! Does anyone else feel that way? Anyway, I would appreciate a course on this subject! Thanks!
I'm definately interested too! I just found your blog and am really enjoying reading it.
