Poll: Relationship with parents brings happiness
NEW YORK - So you're between the ages of 13 and 24. What makes you happy?...By the way, as Anna S. said, is this any surprise? It shouldn't be, but I think we've lost sight of this in our current culture. We think heaping nicer things, more things, bigger things upon our children will make up for one of the things they need most - quality time.Spending time with family was the top answer to that open-ended question, according to an extensive survey - more than 100 questions asked of 1,280 people ages 13-24 - conducted by The Associated Press and MTV on the nature of happiness among America's young people.
Next was spending time with friends, followed by time with a significant other. And even better for parents: Nearly three-quarters of young people say their relationship with their parents makes them happy.
"They're my foundation," says Kristiana St. John, 17, a high-school student from Queens in New York. "My mom tells me that even if I do something stupid, she's still going to love me no matter what. Just knowing that makes me feel very happy and blessed."

Hmm... do they even need a poll to find this out? ;)
I found it really interesting, because among general teenagers, from the outside it does not seem to be the case. I read the rest of it yesterday and was not at all amazed to find out that most teens were happier if they were involved in a church or in their words "believed in a higher power". Also, many of them said their mom or dad was their hero.
Crystal,
This post really blessed me. I really, really love and enjoy my parents, and have made a few significant sacrifices in the recent past in order to be nearer to them and to enjoy more of their company. I find that almost everything in my life falls into place when I listen to their advice and seek to maintain a harmonious relationship with them- and when we just make time to be together. It is certainly not popular in our culture for young people to stick so close to their parents (and certainly my parents and I do not agree on everything!) but it is so clear to me that they are the anchors and boundaries that God has given in my life for orientation, joy, and peaceful growth.
Thank God for parents!
