Fall is in the air!

Okay, I have to admit that I am the exact opposite of Shannon. I think that Autumn is the absolute best time of year. I can't get enough of the crisp weather, the beautiful foliage, or the wonderful Fall recipes. Speaking of which, ever since the weather has cooled down, I've wanted to spend all day in the kitchen baking. I've been seriously craving apple pie for the past few days and I'm also really wanting to try Tammy's Apple Challah soon. Doesn't that look yummy?

What about you? What's your favorite season and why? What are your favorite things to bake this time of year?

I asked this question as a poll on my site...fall won hands down. I really enjoy all seasons...but I must admit...fall makes for some beautiful photos...

I get this terrible urge to bake in the fall. My favorite is pumpkin muffins. It just feels so homey to come in from a cold day to smell something baking, especially something with cinnamon in it. MMMMM... Fall and Spring are my favorite seasons but a sunny day in any season cheers me up.

My favorite seasons are Spring and Fall. I love the flowers of Spring and the crisp, cool air of Fall and the beautiful shades of the trees!

I LOVE Fall! I think I like it because I love to see the colors changing, and I also love the cooling of the weather, going to cider mills, and enjoying apple pie.

"What are your favorite things to bake this time of year?"

Apple pie, apfel strudel, October Stew (a stew with pumpkin, beef, and other veggies).

Autumn is also my favorite. I took my kiddos to the apple orchard earlier this week and we've been enjoying cider ever since. This evening I made apple crisp for dessert. Yummy!

This is so funny because I was just trying to explain myself to my fall loving friends recently. They gave me that look of disbelief when I told them that fall is almost my least favorite season. It's not that I don't love the cooler temperatures, the pumpkins, that beautiful leaves and all that. It's just that fall means winter is coming and I couldn't dread a season any more than I dread winter! (my least favorite season, in case you hadn't guessed) I just despise being cold! If it dips below 50 degrees, I think I'm dying a horrible death!

OK, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. :-)

I'm a lover of heat! I love sandals and sunshine and tall glasses of iced tea on the front porch in the evening. I don't venture a toe out of doors when it's cold outside.

I'm solar powered, what can I say?! ;-)

Good thing we just had supper, otherwise I would be making Tammy’s Apple Challah right now, it looks so good.(I went to the recipe and saw the pictures.)
I have always loved summer the best, but now in my ’older’ (past 40) years I am starting to appreciate Autumn a lot more, maybe it will become my favourite season.
I do not appreciate winters in Canada, we are from a much, much milder climate where snow was a novelty, I never saw it in my 33 years growing up there, and that is a reason Autumn is not my favourite yet, it is too close to winter!

I must say that I don't have a favorite season for the simple reason that I get to enjoy each season to its fullest in PA! We don't have "too-long" winters or "too-hot" summers, so I love each one... I'm always ready for a change right when the season changes too! Imagine that:o).

I prefer spring. We don't really have a fall in Florida. There's no changing of the leaves or things like that. It's just HOT until around Thanksgiving. As winter ends, we feel what most people probably identify as fall-like weather. I do like baking sweet potato pies in autumn, such as it is down here.

I love fall! It's one of my favrotes although I hate to see summer go. I love pumpkin flavored stuff but my husband hates it:( I'm still going to bake it though! My two favorite things to bake are caramel apple pie and pumpkin bars with cream cheese icing-mmm I want it right now!

Hi Crystal! Autumn and Spring are my two favorite seasons. I am dreaming of the days when I can pull out my cozy sweaters, and take a stroll while gazing at the beautiful trees. My family and I are so desperate for fall that tonight, we bought a delicious gallon of fresh apple cider, which we are enjoying with pecan pie. I love making apple crisp and pumpkin pancakes during the fall.My dear Hubby does not like Crock pot meals and soups during the summer, so I am looking forward to cooking some real comfort food soon! Blessings!

Fall is my absolute favorite season! Living in SC, the cooler temperatures are VERY anticipated and welcomed!

I agree with Lydia--I like to bake just about anything with cinnamon in it this time of year: apple pies and cinnamon rolls are our favorites. But I don't like anything made with pumpkin! Go figure. ;)

Our favorite thing to do in Autumn is go to the mountains for backpacking, and then stop at a roadside stand to pick up fresh apples! That definitely says 'Autumn' to me! :)

oooooh, it is so difficult to pick between fall and spring. I feel all "nesty" in the fall and so enjoy the cooler weather and special fall smells like wood smoke, dried leaves, apple pies, etc.

We are raising pumpkins and I cannot wait to set a few out on my front porch. To me that just says "fall".

Have a great weekend,

Trixie

Fall is definitely my favorite season too. I love the coziness of it. The beginning of fires in the fireplace, hot drinks, etc. Also, we get together w/extended family a lot during the fall & winter seasons, which is great. I also feel like during the summer, we're always so busy, but once the fall comes, we have the evenings to ourself in our little house, which I love.

I'm a much better cook than a baker, so even though I love the smell of something sweet baking, that doesn't happen too often in our house. I do make roasts and stews and other yummy things that smell great when my husband walks in from the train in the evening.

Fall is my favorite time of year the colors are so rich. I especially love that I can wear jeans and a t shirt with out a coat or with our burning up. Perfect weather for outdoor activites. Although it is just now starting to feel like fall in Md in the evenings - the days are still a little warm.

My favorite activity this time of year is looking at the changing leaves and being outside.

I like to make apple dumplings and pumpkin pie this time of year but I rarely do because then I'll eat it! And I don't need to do that. LOL!

Today my daughter and I made a delicious carmel apple pie! One of the secrets is to use a variety of apples - as many different kinds as you have available. We picked ours fresh at an orchard, on our way back from a wedding last weekend. The recipe we used is from Allrecipes - Grandma Ople's Apple Pie...yum!!

Summer is my least favorite season, which is one of the reasons we continue homeschooling right through it. When autumn comes...aah! My favorite time of year! Throw the windows open and breath in the crispness!

Also, our next baby is due in November, so I feel like I've been looking forward to autumn all year long. Our first baby was an October baby, so I always feel sentimental when I see the leaves start to change...that feeling of nervous excitement and anticipation just comes flooding back!

I love Fall!!! I used to have bad allergies during this season, and that put a little damper on the excitment of the season for me, but praise the Lord, I no longer suffer w/ those allergies! I love to try new recipes during this time of the year...anything w/ pumpkin, or apples, or various types of squash...yum! There's a recipe I found in the September issue of Country Home that I'm dying to try...Pumpkin Spice Cake w/ Sauteed Apples and Nutmeg Cream. OH MY!!!

Blessings,

Oh! I love love love fall! It has always been my favorite! Even though I am from Florida and we don't get much of one. But now I live in OK, and we get some great fall weather here. I have been getting in the baking mood myself this past week! On Saturday, I am going to try a new recipe for pumpkin loaf! It's at kraftfoods.com, and it's called Layered Pumpkin Loaf if anyone else wants to try it!

My favorite seasons are fall and winter. I love cold weather. I love being to layer myself in clothes (I hate jackets though, so layers it is). I love the leaves changing, the crisp air, fall scented candles (which I just ordered a whole new shipment of from Yankee Candle), the beginnings of making soups and stews (made my first stew yesterday), homemade bread, hot cocca, reading Christmas books, listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas films (already doing all 3...LOL), and of course baking. I bought a myriad of holiday Gooseberry Patch cookbooks last year and didn't really use them, so you can guarantee they will be used this year!
As it gets colder I get more excited and anticipate Christmas. Yippee!!!! ;)

Here in Germany fall started maybe a day or two before the beginning of September. 40's / 50's at night and in the wee hours of the morning and 60's during the day. The leaves are changing but not to the pretty colors yet.
I am going to take it all in as it will be our last fall and winter here. 9 more months till we are back in America :)

Fall blessings to all!

I love spring - it's refreshing newness, the plants pushing through the soil, leaves budding on trees. THE END OF WINTER. Now, I love some cooler weather, but not that bone chilling winter cold!

Being from New England, I can honestly say it's the most beautiful season here - the colors of the leaves are stunning, really.

There's so much I love about it. Everything from fresh apples from the tree; being able to put on a sweater and feel "just right"; delicious baked treats; hearty food like soups and stews that are comforting; rustling in the leaves that have fallen; snuggling under a comforter at night which makes it oh-so-cozy; sipping hot cider or hot chocolate; & maple anything!

My most happy memories come from Autumn.

I really like Fall, Spring and Winter, I have a really hard time with heat, but love it when it cools off enough so you start feeling human again!
My favorite thing to make in the fall is probably buttercup squash with butter and a slight sprinkling of brown sugar. It is so good with a roasted chicken and roasted garlic vegetables, homemade cranberry relish. I like to be outside most in the spring and fall though! We really take advantage as the days are warm and at night you can dress warm and snuggly as we have already gotten one freeze already! Canning is fun too!

I like to stand outside in the early fall (like now) and breathe. When I'm headed somewhere, it is wonderful to take an extra few minutes to realize that the air smells and tastes like fall, even though the temperatures may resume summer-like levels. Something has changed. And I feel like doing adventurous things.
To God be all glory,

Crystal, the apple pie craving must be going around! I too enjoy fall emensly. I love to put on a cozy sweater, grab a cup of hot apple spice tea and curl up with a good book. I also have gotten the itch to bake fall desserts, pies, and pumpkin breads!

When we lived in southern Arizona, I really missed the seasons and feel blessed to be in the Midwest this time of year.

Sorry Crystal, I'm a spring gal too. I love to bake in the fall and winter, but nothing takes the place of SPRING.

Although I love spring flowers best and buds and opening blooms, I think a good portion of my love of it probably has something to do with my desire for organization. It's the only season where the weeds aren't overgrown on the roads and everything looks manicured. BLISS! lol

Call me wierd, but at least I know what looks good. ; )

Ok, I'm going to buck the system here! I love winter. I love snow and the peace and quiet it brings. Summer would be my second I love the sun and heat. I love spring and fall too but I guess I'm an extreme gal. I have loved the change to cooler weather though and have already enjoyed making a chowder and bread. Pie of any type is my fave to bake though.

I'm totally with you, I loooooove fall. I also love spring. It's hard to say which I like best, but probably fall. I'm not a big fan of hot and humid summer, and winter is the absolute worst. :)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fall, even though I loathe winter. I choose not to remember what comes after fall, lest the reality ruin the greatness of it all. I love everything about fall; the smell of old leaves, football games, crickets in the mornings, and the food and cider. My favorite things to bake are gingerbread (served with applesauce and whipped cream), caramel apples drizzled with chocolate and nuts, and overnight apple oatmeal. Mmmm.

Hi Crystal! Here in New Zealand we are right in the middle of SPRING - it is just gorgeous, with longer days, birds going crazy every where, and the smell of blossom and magnolia on the balmy wind.

This time of year makes me want to run along the beach, go swimming, and eat salad all day long :-)

I love all seasons for their different characteristics, and enjoy each one as it comes along. I find winter a bit depressing, so that's probably my least favourite.

God's peace,
Eugenie

I LOVE FALL!!!!!!!!!

We already made an apple pie this season...and I hope we make many more! (I think the apple-pie-bug is going around, too.)

It already snowed here too. (We live in the northwoods.)

I think fall is the most fantabulous season of all! It wells up those warm fuzzy feelings inside of me...eeek! Lovely!

:D
