If only I were a better seamstress

Has anyone else been "eating up" the Handmade Holiday posts on this blog like I have?

And I can't really even sew. However, I want to make some of these projects so badly that I think I might just dust off my trusty old sewing machine and give it a whirl.

If you are looking for some inexpensive and creative gifts, definitely check it out.

Speaking of gifts, be sure to read Meredith's excellent post on Cheerful Frugality Gives.

It might be better to not be a skilled seamstress! I can sew well, and have a beautiful machine that can sew anything, and I want to make it all!!!!

I must have bookmarked almost every post in the sew mama sew series!

I REALLY like to sew (I teach quilting) and I ALWAYS schedule myself too many projects for Christmas! :) I hear where you're coming from, Crystal! ...But I would encourage you to get out the sewing machine and give it a whirl ....if you are balanced enough to control how much time you spend on it. That's my problem. I'm a stay-at-home daughter, so I don't have as many pressing time issues as a mother and wife would have, but I'm trying really hard (maybe?) to prepare for the future by learning to time myself on the machine!

Wow, this is wonderful! Thanks so much--I'm really inspired!
There are some things you could certainly make that don't take much skill (pretty much just being able to use your sewing machine). Pillows and napkins, for example, generally feature straight stitching. Aprons are easy, too. And those cute felt ornaments (where they use cookie cutters for patterns)--those could certainly be made by hand. No law says you'd have to embroider them. Two words apply to the hand-sewing challenged: fabric paint.
I hope you take out your machine to play!

I love sewing but hav'nt done any in a long time. I used to make all sorts of things when I was younger, bags, dolly clothes ect...
I did plan on making a nighgown bag with some lovely lavender satin I have, but so many other things must be done before I can start on this project.
Take Care and God Bless.

I'm not amazing at sewing (although I hope to be one day), but I have been crocheting and knitting a lot of gifts lately. Recently I just made an afghan for a cousin on her wedding day, and I also made some toy animals for a young nephews birthday. Pictures are posted on my blog. I really love making things by hand, it gives everything a value that you can't buy!

Thanks for sharing the links! I also wish that I was a better seamstress. But I guess it's never to late to improve. : ) (Now if I could only find the time......)

I am loving this series, too! There are so many great craft/sewing blogs out there that I have on my feed reader for eye candy, since I have no sewing machine and am prone to start projects and not finish them. :)
