My baby is growing up!

The bad news:

Kathrynne figured out how to climb out of her crib today.

I knew this day would be coming soon. And out the window goes my mention yesterday of being able to put both girls in their beds and lock myself in a room by myself for a few minutes! :)

The good news:

Kathrynne fixed her breakfast almost entirely by herself this morning.

I only had to get the bowl and pour the cereal. She got the milk out, poured the milk on, put the milk back. And then she got in the drawer and got her own spoon to use and sat down at the table for breakfast. I know this might not seem like such a big deal, but to this young momma, it was a huge milestone!

Don't you just hate it when they grow up? I am constantly telling my boys to stop growing up right now. They of course think it is terribly funny! It is so bittersweet!

I love the picture...she's going to be a great mommy someday! I can't believe she poured the milk by herself; I'm impressed! :)

aweee on one hand its funny that she in not getting out of there bed.. but on the other hand Im sry! :-) They do get big so fast! :-D

Now all you have to do is make sure she understands that crawling out of bed when she is suppose to be in it is disobeying. :-)
Maybe time for a big girl bed.

My little guy is going to be 6 Dec 1 and it is just breaking my heart! He has grown so much this year! My oldest will be 13 in Dec and it truly seems like I just had her!

I understand your bittersweet joy and pain!!! My 8 year old fixed dinner all by herself yesterday, well almost, but the biscuts, eggs and bacon was very good. I remember when she made her first bowl of ceral she was about the same age. Ahhh its like dejavu all over again. Enjoy it and embrace these moments while they last. Pretty soon she will have a blog post dedicated to her mama just like you!

Crystal,

I will tell you what a milestone is, Crystal...when they can finally throw up in their own bucket. THAT is a milestone. :)

Surely making her own breakfast (that's awesome! maybe she can make yours, too) is a suitable replacement for being able to crawl out of her crib! Or not...

We had to get our son a big boy bed at about the same age as Kathrynne is now. We were potty training him and one afternoon he woke up from his nap screaming...I went in there and he had wet himself. He was so embarrassed and mad at me! He said "I called you!!"...poor baby. We bought him a bed that very day. It was so hard for me, but he loved it.

What a great picture. She is gorgeous. Our youngest is only 15 months and already my husband is lamenting the speed with which she seems to be growing up! It really does go by fast, doesn't it?

Hi Crystal,
I had to move my little girl to her toddler bed so her little brother who was about 7 months old could move into the crib. She wasn't two yet and I explained to her that she was never allowed to get out of bed without Mommy telling her she could. I tell you her age because Kathrynne is about six months older and from what you say about her she talks way more and understands a lot more than my little girl does. If you start now and make her understand what you expect of her and always follow through, it shouldn't be a problem. Kathrynne seems like she's such a sweet obedient little thing so it should be even easier for you. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to discipline my little girl for getting out of her bed. Plus there's nothing like being woken up to a little voice calling "Mama, Mama". :-)

Awww, at least she waited this long! my last son could easily get out by 15 months, then it turns into a training issue.

The cereal thing is great, the only thing is if they do that one time where they think they can pour the cereal too and it comes out too fast and your floor is covered in cereal.....

Congratulations! (On the breakfast, not the crib. *chuckle*)

Have you considered setting out the bowl of cereal with some plastic wrap on top, or putting a serving of cereal in a sandwich bag and setting in her bowl on the table at night, after the girls are in bed? Then when she gets up she could help with breakfast by peeling the wrap off or opening the sandwich bag and pouring the cereal into the bowl. Might be fun for her to try. :-P

Haha! Amy that is a true milestone for sure!!! Haha! The ability to throw up in a bucket comes in especially handy when you are on your way back home from a long trip and when you have more than one child throwing up at the same time.

Other milestones I thought of were when they learn to blow their nose and when boys learn to aim in the potty.

Crystal......I do find that my girls wait and crawl out of the bed much later than my boys....All my boys were crawling out well before a year old...my almost 2 year old girl hasn't been that brave yet;-)

Actually...just wait until the boys come along...climbing out of the baby bed seems only days after their born! Then come those overly energetic boys (God seems to bless me with plenty of them) that tear off the sheets, throw out all the pillows and stuffed animals and manage to throw the mattress out before they climb out of the bed and destroy the rest of the room by smearing deistin and baby powder all over themselves and the room...12 month old boys...

At least she is not cutting through the baby gate with wire cutters or dumping large quantities of rice in your dishwasher (rice cooks up quite nice and fluffy in a dishwasher I might add ;-)

Enjoy the antics (that is the ones that don't require discipline) and write down the funny things they say---the grow up quick ;-)

How delightful! It is so sweet picturing your little girl getting her own breakfast.
