Lunch at Cracker Barrel

We usually go out once a week for a "family date." Today's date was at Cracker Barrel, per Kathrynne's request.

Ahhhhh. Cracker Barrel.

We went to a few on Our Big Ol' Honkin' Lil' Trip last year. We all have fond memories.

There aren't any in CA so we'll have to wait until our next adventure out.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Oh Crystal, you've sent me back this morning ;-)

Cracker Barrel has to be on the very top of the list of my favorite restaurants! Every one across the country is awesome! Unfortunately, there's none around us, so they're REALLY a treat.

Crystal-would you mind helping us "working gals" out a bit? Many of us yearn to be good, Christian wives and mothers...but for whatever reason...we must work outside the home. My husband, for example believes that women should work (his mother did and therefore so will his wife). I want a happy family and an inviting home...I'm just not sure how to achieve those things sometimes. Could you please post this so maybe a fellow Proverbs 31 lady might be able to share some helpful hints? Thank you so much...

I think it's great that you guys have fun family dates weekly. I hope this isn't too prying, but can I ask, do you skimp with the food budget so that you can splurge in the eating out area? We all have our frugal areas but also our little areas based on preferences that we are willing to pay for. Is eating out once a week your family's "splurge?" Is it something you both like to do? The reason I ask is because you seem so careful of every penny that I would think it would make you cringe to go out to eat very often. Do you have any frugal eating out tricks like not ordering drinks or using restaurant coupons, etc? Personally at this stage of my life it is such a treat to go out to eat and have someone else cook and clean that if it's in the budget I'm ALL FOR IT! But I just wondered what your thoughts are on this subject since you are the queen of frugality and we can spend almost as much on one meal out that you spend in a week on groceries!

To Anna's Mom:

I am not a working mom but I wanted to encourage you. I have known many moms who have to work, including my current best friend who's a mom of two toddlers. I have marveled at the way that these moms live just like they are stay-at-home moms in spite of the fact that their husbands demand they work. One mom, Kim, made sure to have a job during the hours her kids were gone at school so she could be home with them after school. She is very domestic and was always baking homemade things and knitting sweaters and scarves. She ALWAYS made Christ a priority for her children and never skipped Sunday School or AWANAS but actively joined in with them and was active in going to summer camp with her kids to help out while they were there too. I admire her so much for being so strong in the face of being married to an unbeliever and having to work.
My other friend, Amy, has a job at church that is very flexible and allows her to bring her baby to work with her. She amazes me in that she works 30 hours a week yet exercises more than me, is always having people over and showing hospitality, and is the friend that brings over goodies or shares homemade bread and baked goods more than any other. Her attitude is so wonderful even in the face of demanding hours and little personal time.
I think the key for you is to:
Pray that God would provide a way for you be a SAHM if at all possible. God delights to do BIG stuff in our lives. He can change your husband's perspective through your prayers. If God doesn't open the doors that way then pray that God would allow you to work during the time your kids are at school or to work less hours than you currently do.
Attitude is the key to having a "homey" atmosphere. If you make organization a top priority in your life, it will go a long way toward lowering your stress levels and not making you cranky. If you have meals planned in advance and learn to shop once a week and use the crockpot a lot, it will help (as I've observed in my two friend's lives). Something I really admire about my working mom friends is that no matter how hard they work, they never complain. They respect my role without acting jealous and they are positive and talk kindly about their husbands and jobs. Ultimately God is their hope and they rely on Him for strength in it all.
I pray that your husband comes to see the benefits of having a wife at home and that God opens the doors of provision for you to be at-home it that is His will. If not, I pray that He gives you the strength to make a warm, inviting home while having a job outside the home.

We always go Cracker Barrel on our way back from any trip down south,Cracker Barrel is right off of Route 95.

I am sure right now Cracker Barel and many other resteraunts are very inexpensive for you to eat at-children under 5 are almost always free or 99cents.I am glad to see that every so often you do splurge!
