Making my home a haven on Monday

Today we stuck fairly closely to our normal daily schedule. I awoke at 5 a.m. and nursed Kaitlynn while I prayed and read God's Word. Then it was on to exercising while Kaitlynn played nearby. Afterwards, I put Kaitlynn back down, showered, got dressed, fixed my face and hair, started the laundry, and wrote a to-do list for the day.

After spending some time with Jesse, I then settled in to check my email, moderate comments, and blogged a quick bit on both of my blogs. In no time at all, my computer time was up (Have you noticed, like me, that time can literally fly by when you're on the computer?) and it was time to get the girls up and dressed.

However, both of the girls were sleeping so soundly that I decided to let them sleep a little longer (a full weekend can sure wear them out!), and I got busy cleaning up the kitchen that I'd let wait in favor of sleep last night.

While I was cleaning up, I caught a little of the Laura Ingraham show (my "healthy radio addiction" and my way of trying to keep up a little bit with current news and events!) and finished making pancakes I'd started last night. We had some extra milk to use up so I took my pancake recipe times eight and filled the freezer with whole-wheat pancakes! While I was at it, I also whipped up some chicken and rice casserole for dinner and planned what sides we'd have with it.

Kathrynne finally woke up around 9:30 a.m., so I stopped where I was in the kitchen and got Kaitlynn up and we sat down for a breakfast of whole-wheat pancakes and grapefruit and then did Bible time. We're reading Genesis 1, a story from her picture Bible, and reviewing the ABC memory verses everyday right now. She had her heart set on also reading the story of Samson from her Bible so I obliged.

After breakfast, we finished cleaning up and stuck the pancakes in the freezer and then tackled picking up of the rest of the house, some dusting, the mountain of laundry, and the living room. We didn't get it all completely finished, but we made some great headway. Kaitlynn played on the floor and Kathrynne colored for part of the time. I listened to some of the Entrepreneurial Boot Camp while folding the laundry. (I am really enjoying listening through it - so thought-provoking and inspiring! Look for a full review soon!)

Kathrynne and Kaitlynn were both acting noticeably tired and Kathrynne had asked if she could go to bed, so I decided to switch around a few of our time blocks on the schedule and put them both down for an early nap. I figured we could eat a late lunch when they woke up.

While they slept, I worked on making out a grocery list and menu, did a bit more picking up and laundry, and then spent a short while writing up a few blog posts and answering some emails.

Kathrynne woke up about an hour later and she and I sat down for tuna sandwiches and green beans and her afternoon school time. We're reviewing a numbers chart, ABC cards, and reading a few lines of letters from Alpha-Phonics everyday. Today we also read a few picture books together.

Once our school time was finished, we got everything ready to make a quick trip to the grocery store. The Lord blessed us with some excellent deals. See them here.

Both girls went down for their late afternoon naps when we got home and I did some computer work. We're now getting ready to eat dinner as a family and head out for a meeting with our ELP.

Still left on my to-do list: Put clean sheets on our bed, write thank you's, and finish the laundry. Hopefully, I'll get to some or most of those tonight. If not, there's always tomorrow!

Thanks to those of you who participated in Making Your Home a Haven Monday! I've enjoyed checking out your inspiring posts! If you weren't able to join us today, feel free to hop in tomorrow or some time later this week.

Did you cook your dinner that far ahead of time? I think of my dinner, but I usually cannot make it that far ahead of time.

We vary our children's Bible time and sometimes use "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" as you do.

My dh had that book when he was young - and we've continued using it with our kids. The stories are just the right length for little ones, and the pictures are realistic and colorful.

My mother-in-law purchased us a new bible storybook called "The Storybook Bible of Jesus: Every Story Whispers His Name". It is a new favorite children's Bible. Beginning with Genesis, it systematically goes through the major stories of Old and New Testament...each story ends with a reference to Christ and the redemptive message. It's awesome, the pictures are great and my girls love it! We read each night, they can't wait for the next story! Try it out!

Wow, you get a lot done! I try to get up that early, but it never happens. I have a quick question for you, when you make your pancakes to freeze, how do you store them in the freezer? Do you just use freezer bags?

I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed browsing your blog tonight, as well as a few others that I stumbled upon as I read. It's been a breath of fresh air, and a good dose of exactly what I needed this week. It's greatly appreciated. I caught you too late to participate today, but I'm printing several posts to ponder. I look forward to participating when I get it all together and processed.

I'm just curious, Crystal -- how in the world do you get your daughter to sleep in until 9:30????? LOL Our boys, ages 13 and 10 have NEVER, EVER slept past 8:30am, and that was our oldest just over Christmas vacation! I keep waiting for the day when they'll actually sleep in, but they're both just early risers, which I guess will be a good thing when they're adults! LOL

You did get a lot done! Woohoo!

I got into the habit of making my bed as soon as I got out of it - otherwise I want to climb back in. ;-) I like to think of it as a "microwave chore" - it takes two minutes and poof, it's done. Then again I pull the sheet/blanket up on my husband's side as he's leaving for work at 5 am - so it's half done when I get up. *chuckle*

Loved reading through your day, as usual, Crystal! Interested in your pancake making/freezing ahead of time. I'm just really taking off on freezing meals--I checked The One Armed Cook out of the library (I read your review and decided to try it).

Has anyone tried a childrens' Bible by a woman named Catherine Vos? It's an old-timey one. Is that the one you were talking about, "edi" ? Several people recommended it to me, and I finally found it for sale at a church bookstore. It's a bit pricey but I would buy it if I knew it was good...

Are you a natural early riser? If now, could you PLEASE share how you get up that early? I am really struggling with this. I confess that I find it very difficult to get up before 9am. Yes, I know that is very late! I need help! It seems no matter what time I go to bed the night before, whether is 10pm or 3am, I wake up at 9am and any early is a struggle.
