Amazing!
Now this was a fascinating story:AHMADABAD, India — A newborn baby girl fell through the toilet in a moving train and onto the tracks moments after her mother prematurely gave birth, surviving nearly two hours before being found, relatives said Thursday.I'm not sure how the baby fell through the toilet (I'm assuming these are open on these trains? That's a bit scary to imagine!), but the fact that she was so premature and lived through all of that is just amazing.

On trains in India, it's not so much a "toilet" as a "hole in the train car that you do your business in". And yes, it's scary.
Yes, the toilets are different from its here. The style is different too. (in most places) It is open. Remember the toilets in campgrounds? (and there was one in Grand Canyon too). It is that kind.
Oh, yeah, Indian trains, an experience in and of themselves. On a mission trip back in high school we took a train across the country and the toilets truly are just a hole in the floor. Pigs roam the tracks picking up the filth left behind. I cannot imagine a precious baby born into that. Yet, God knows even when a sparrow falls from a tree.
It is an amazing story, this baby girl is a survivor! :-)
However, as an Indian woman I am not sure if this was an accident. In most families, baby girls are not a welcome addition to the family. And unfortunately, women are under a lot of pressure to produce only male babies.
Another surprising thing is that this story is not present in any of the Indian news sites I visit but many International news websites have reported it.
I hope that it was an accident & that she recovers from the incident.
Wow! Babies are actually so tough, aren't they? They have such a will to survive! I worked in an orphanage in China for a summer as a teen, and all of the babies there had been abandoned...and survived...

Oh, and yes, it's a hole! It's the same in China. I remember going there on vacation as a little kid (we lived in Korea)and being freaked out, watching the tracks rushing away below me. I was too big to actually fall through, of course, but I can see how a premature baby could fall through.

Deepa: That's what I was wondering--I just couldn't figure out how a baby falls through a toilet, even if it is a hole in the train. But I am hoping, hoping that it was somehow an accident.
Oh how these precious Indian people need to understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that they can for the first time understand the true worth of women! Women who were created in the image of God for a great and glorious calling and purpose! The blindness and shackles of sin breaks my heart.
Wow, it is amazing that this baby survived, but I have been wondering one thing? How long was the poor thing in the "toilet" before she actually fell through. I mean, it does take awhile for the placenta to detach. Mom had to have noticed and then call for help, right?
Unless mom abrupted and that's why the baby was born prematurely.
Just the thoughts of a former NICU nurse who always was amazed at how those little babies survived.
Yes Crystal, many people in India do view women & girls as a burden. This is in part due to the dowry that the family has to pay to get them married.
There are many programmes from the Indian govt to prevent families from selectively aborting girl fetuses(gender determination is illegal, special incentives if they send their girls to school, etc). But as you can expect, it doesn't do much good. You have to change peoples hearts for real change to take place.
I am a Christian, my great, great, great... grandparents converted from Hinduism about 200yrs ago. But even some God-fearing people in my family feel sorry for my parents for not having any male children (we're 3 girls). They even say that my parents are not blessed!! I guess its a cultural thing.
Sorry for such a long comment, maybe its because I feel very strongly about this matter.
Deepa,
Thanks for your comments on this. Makes me want to go give MY 3 little girls an extra hug right now.

We have close friends from India and they introduced us to this organization that helps rescue baby girls in India. I won't explain why here, but here is the link, if you are interested.

PS: Train toilets in Russia also go straight onto the tracks. They lock the bathroom doors when the train is stopped so they can't be used. :)
Yes, I have used trains like that, though it's been a long time. I always thought it was weird to be able to see the tracks from the toilet! Using them when the train is in station is forbidden, for obvious reasons.
Unfortunately, it may not have been an accident. I have a daughter who I'm thankful to say that her birthmother had the courage and strength to give her up. I pray that someone introduces her to Jesus so that we may all be together one day.
We were discussing this on one of my message boards, and I pray it was an accident. If as the story says the mom passed out afterwards from losing so much blood, I think the force of the baby falling out unsupported may have caused the placenta to detach and caused mom to lose to much blood and pass out. Also, early labor can frequently feel like it is not really labor. To be perfectly honest, I was induced with my first, but when I felt the urge to push I thought I just needed to use the bathroom, and my baby was almost born in the toilet, so I could see it happening.
I just pray that little one makes it after such a hard entry into the world.
i saw this the other day as well, and am still shaking my head in the wonder and goodness of God...and, i appreciate deepa's comment....to give understanding to a nation and its precious people who need God as much as we do....lylah
