So much for thinking I was a good driver

Yesterday afternoon the girls and I bundled up and hopped into the van to brave the snow and cold for our weekly trip to the library.

As I was getting into the driver's seat Kathrynne exclaimed, "Mama, that's Daddy's seat!"

Thinking for another moment, she then inquired with a surprised voice, "Did you learn how to drive, Mama?"

She seemed quite amazed that I was behind the wheel--as if she'd completely forgotten about the hundreds of other times she'd ridden with me and the fact that we make this same trip to the library every week. I assured her that I've actually been driving just as long as her Daddy, had lots of practice, and she had nothing to worry about.

She appeared to accept this and rode in silence for the short trip to the library. However, she must have been a bit worried for as we pulled into the library parking lot, she let out a sigh of relief and exclaimed, "There's the library--Praise the Lord!"

When my kids were little they asked me about the number signs on the side of the road. I told them they were the speed limit and that my speedometer was supposed to match them and not go over. Well they really understood and for the next several years if I went above the speed limit the little back seat drivers told me to slow down.

That's so funny. My daughter said the same thing to me one day as my husband and I share a car and he usually drives. I told her that I drive all the time. Then she asked me if she could drive too!

I have a three year old, too. Isn't it fun how they copy our way of talking and aplly it to their own thoughts? I love the way three year olds surprise you all the time with their thoughtfull mind and exploring language. :-)

Thanks for sharing this, Crystal.

That's funny! Kids are so cute! I had to take a left turn rather quickly yesterday morning and my seven year old daughter piped up from the back seat "Well, that was rather sudden!" I cracked up laughing!

LOL. Loved that. Am currently in the truck for the day and so read it to Steve. We both had a good chuckle. :) I do seem to remember a driving "incident" with you some years back...maybe Kathrynne found out! ;)

How funny! This girl has got personality!
I am wondering--what do you do to record memories like these--and photos too? Do you keep albums or scrapbooks or a journal, etc.? I really need ideas of what to do! :) Something doable but still special for my kids to have one day. Thanks.

That is to cute! My dd has gotten very concerned about my driving as well, and will often tell me, "WATCH OUT!" if she sees another car. "Don't run them over!" Not that I've ever done that (with her in the car anyways!).
