Baking soda, take two
I know I've been singing the praises of baking soda recently, but let me tell you, this stuff really works. This week I direly needed to clean out the trash cans and had the bright idea to sprinkle some baking soda in them. A little water and scrubbing later and they were not only clean but clean-smelling, too.
And stranger than strange was the fact that I actually enjoyed cleaning out the trashes. Maybe I've been breathing in too many baking soda fumes or something? Oh yeah, I forgot, it's non-toxic.
Well anyway, it's inexpensive, non-toxic, and easy and that works for me!

I bet baking soda would work great on my cat litter boxes! I change the litter once a week, and next time I do it I will give the baking soda a try! That's a job I tend to put off! I doubt if I will really enjoy it, but anything to help!

Hi Crystal,
About 20 minutes ago I made up some baking soda scrub! We use it on the sinks and the tub/shower.
I put it in clean cheese bottles. No secret recipe. Baking soda, castille soap (could use kitchen soap), and ess. oil (tonight we used tea tree) because the girls really needed to scrub their tub, again! But I really like orange oil. It smells so fresh! Happy cleaning! Julie
Baking soda makes a great facial scrub, too! It was literally the ONE thing that got rid of my blackheads.
I used baking soda today too, one of the boys had a small accident so I let some sit on the mattress. I was surprised when I vacuumed it up after letting it sit all day how well it had absorbed all the odor.
I keep a little baking soda in the trash can to decrease odors. Thanks for the reminder about cleaning with baking soda! :)
Blessings,
Michele :)

Not to be pedantic, but baking soda IS a chemical...bicarbonate of soda! But yes, it works great for cleaning ;)Gill
sounds like a great and cheap way to clean your house. I use vinager and a newspaper when cleaning the house and it works just fine!
Great post!

When you posted about baking soda the first time, I had to give it a try, and boy, were you right! My kitchen sink that had stains that the chemically-loaded products were not able to erase, was sparkling after I scrubbed the baking soda on it! I also used it on some spots in my grout, and they came right out! Thank you so much Crystal!
I'm going to have to agree with the second anonymous poster - it is a chemical. (Sorry, but I was a chemist in college!)
Of course, what I think you meant to say is that it's vapor-free and non-toxic. That is to say, it's not a harsh chemical. And we eat it, too! That's why it's called 'baking' soda. ;-) So, yeah, it's on the list with water, lemon juice, and vinegar as one of the safest household cleaners (probably at the end of the list - I wouldn't want to ingest too much at one time).
We LOVE baking soda at our house! We buy big 10-lb bags of it at our local warehouse club and use it for just about everything. :-D
Baking soda and vinegar are both chemicals. Vinegar is acetic acid.
I stand corrected on the baking soda being a chemical thing. :)
I use baking soda on carpets, it really makes a difference. I did get a chuckle out of you saying about the fumes.
Have a great day!

Cleaning with vinegar and baking soda is great...not only do they work but you don't have to be afraid to use them (or let your little ones help).
I buy mine at Sam's. The most economical for your money too. I use it alot for cooking too.
Umm sorry anonymous but she didn't say Baking soda was not a chemical just non- toxic! Sorry I had to point that small detail out.
Kim: Actually, I *had* said baking soda wasn't a chemical--when I meant to say it wasn't a toxic chemical! I corrected my mistake in the post after some others kindly pointed that out. So it was my bad--but thanks for backing me up! :)
