Passionate Housewives on Family Life Today

Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, will be featured on the FamilyLife Today broadcast on March 13-14, 2008. Hosted by Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine, FamilyLife Today airs daily on more than 800 Christian radio outlets nationwide.

Details on the broadcasts from FamilyLife Today :

Home Sweet Home: The Center of Evangelism 03/13/08 (Day 1 of 2)
Does motherhood leave you little time for ministry? If that's what you've thought, you might want to reconsider. On today's broadcast, Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald, co-authors of the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, tell Dennis Rainey how a woman's home can be her greatest outreach for the gospel, especially when she's training her children or reaching out to friends or neighbors.
Redefining Womanhood 03/14/08 (Day 2 of 2)
Mother of eight, Jennie Chancey, and mother of ten, Stacy McDonald, join award-winning author and speaker Dennis Rainey for today's broadcast. Jennie and Stacy, co-authors of the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, encourage wives and mothers to remember their high calling and to look forward to the legacy they're leaving behind.
If you are unable to catch the broadcast, you can listen online here. If you get a chance to tune in, I'd love to hear what you think!

By the way, if you haven't gotten your copy of Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, I heartily encourage you to do so. This book inspired, blessed, and challenged this young mama to not "grow weary in well-doing" but rather to look to the Lord for the courage and strength to fulfill this noble and glorious calling He has called me to--that of wife, mother, and homemaker.

Though the world may scoff and accuse me of "wasting my life", I'm making my husband successful, training and nurturing the next generation, and seeking to beautifully depict the Gospel through our home and family. What could be greater than investing my life in those things?

I thought Passionate Housewives was ok; nothing particularly new but well researched and thorough.
I thought "surely no one actually buys into the "Me Trap" **that** much.

THEN I picked up a copy of Womans Day or something like that at the grocery. Almost every article was "How to get what I want" or "How to escape my family".

Now don't get me wrong, I have a houseful of BOYS and there are moments when I'd love to potty alone, bathe alone and eat something that didn't have the word NUGGET in it's name. BUT I don't feel I "gave up my career" (which, incidentally, I chose to do) and I'm certainly not wasting my masters degree in education! I've learned more about TEACHING since raising these boys than I ever once learned in teacher's college.

If women are actually getting their motherhood advice from magazines and other sources such as the stuff I read from the store, I'm frightened. I am NOT supermom; I wasn't raised by a mom who liked kids or being a wife. I LEARNED. I wanted to LEARN.

Praise the Lord for authors of Passionate Housewives. If they can open the eyes of just one wife and mom to the true picture of contentment, their work is worth it.

I finished reading Passionate Housewives a while back!! Great book!!! I was encouraged and inspired to keep doing what God has called me to do, but with greater joy and contentment. I listened to the broadcast and enjoyed hearing directly from these women. I especially enjoyed learning more about hospitality and how as people who follow Christ our greatest ministry is our family. But that shouldn't stop us from reaching out to those around us. Ministry is how we live and I am learning that more and more each day. Just as worship is not just singing in church on Sunday, but it is a lifestyle so should our ministry be...a lifestyle that others see and are drawn into by the Holy Spirit. Thanks for another great discussion.

Crystal, I caught the end of today's (13th) broadcast...what I heard was great! I would love to read the book and haven't yet (in due time), but what they talked about today just falls right in line with all God seems to be teaching me these days...to let the gospel be spread through the roles He's designed for me...chiefly in teaching my kids God's word, using that to reach out to neighbors. I was also thinking about how as a housewife I could simply bring something I make (food) to a neighbor who's an unwed mom, or someone God lays on my heart.

It's just so encouraging to hear other women, like the authors of Passionate Housewives, and many of the commentors here, who actually highly esteem and embrace the wonderful, Biblical roles of wifehood, motherhood and homemaking.

What a treasure!

I just read the transcript from the interview. I really appreciate what the authors have to say, and I hope I can get my hands on a copy of the book soon.

I'm expecting an Amazon gift card in the mail...so hopefully I can buy it with that. Otherwise, it'll have to wait until there's room in the budget.

I just don't understand why people feel the need to make the comment "oh, you're wasting your college degree by staying home!"

I went to school, am still working on getting my Masters' degree (actually a double Masters, but whatever...). My husband and I feel that it is important for a parent to be home with the kids when they are little - my dad, due to the nature of his job, was the parent at home. It worked for my family, didn't 'emasculate' him as some out there in bloggyland would like to suggest, and my brother and I turned out okay.

DH and I like to say to those who pooh pooh me 'wasting my potential' that we'd rather 'waste Andrea's potential' than waste money on daycare if we DON'T have to. We understand some folks have no choice - his dad cheated on his mom and she became a single mom when DH was 5, she had no choice. She HAD to work to make things work. But I also have a degree in a field that allows for me to take time away for my family, and still come back when the kids are older and in school without any negative ramifications.

Do I feel lonely some days? Yes, I do. My son is only 7 months old, so it isn't like he's huge on conversation right now. ;) But I know that staying home, taking care of him and my home, is more rewarding for our family right now than me trying to get it all done - there's no way I could successfully be a wife, a mom, a worker, and a student. I CHOSE this for myself and my family. It isn't right for everyone, but it is right for me!

I listen to Family Life on my Ipod every day when I'm setting up the family restaurant and was pleasantly surprised when I listened to this broadcast. I think the ladies made a lot of great points, especially about opening up your home for hospitality.

I'm an introvert so this area is difficult for me, but I know when our time comes to have a family I will want to do the same thing. I'd rather have my kid's friends come over, even with the parents than have them go to another families' house that I don't know. My parents were so awesome about making our house the "fun" house that everyone just naturally wanted to come over.

I really enjoyed listening them talking as they are just real, not fake that it is not hard sometimes, but encouraging us to keep going! I have met Stacy in real life and getting to know her in other ways also is encouraging to me!
I was not a girl who dreamed of being a mother, and it is so amazing to me to rejoice in my job as a mother and tell people that proudly and I love being encouraged like this. I am looking forward to reading the book as well!
