A Week with Auntie Gretchen: Sunday - Day 2
After church on Sunday and the fellowship dinner afterwards, we came home for naps and then fresh orange/apple/carrot juice and waffles for dinner.
Yummy! (See the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook? My mom gave that to me when I got married and it is my all-time favorite cookbook for everyday recipes. I used it countless times and only had one recipe flop!)
Washing dishes! Kathrynne can stay busily occupied with dish-washing for thirty minutes or longer. And she actually does a pretty good job of it. She's certainly my right-arm-in-training!Labels: Pictures

My daughter is only 9mo and I can't tell you how eagerly I wait for the right-arm-in-training days! Well, part of me...the other part wants her to stay a cuddlysweet baby forever!
I was given that same cookbook when I got married (waaay back in 2005 :) and I love it, too. Better than my Betty Crocker cookbook!
Your juice sounds yummy. Did you add anything to the juice, or was it pure fruit and veggie juice?
reminds me of when my oldest was that age, she would stand on a 5 gallon wheat bucket with an apron on and wash dishes, it was great fun! Now she is 19 and getting married. Treasure every day. When folks ask if I have a dishwasher I say "yes I have 7" always makes them shake their head because of course they meant an automatic appliance :).

Oh my goodness! Crystal, your daughter is absolutely precious!!! Now, I have a cute "baby" girl too (born over 25 years ago - lol). Those waffles look totally gourmet.

My first Better Homes and Garden Cookbook is from 1980 when I first got out of the Army and was living on my own.I still use it lots. When the cookbook had the 75th anniversary edition come out I bought that one.I guess you will be buying the 100th edition!
Waffles look yummy.
I have my own BH&G cookbook from the 1980's and my Mom's from the 1940's. Many of our "tried and true" recipes came from those wonderful cookbooks.
Your daughter is absolutely adorable!! What a good helper!
That's my favorite cookbook too! I actually inherited my hubby's grandmother's copy, so it is a bit worse for the wear, but I LOVE it!!
What a cutie pie she is!!
yummy waffles! I love waffles!

Hmmm, so you've got her washing dishes. Mine wants to learn, but so far I've held all, worrying that she's a bit too young for that particular task (she does lots of other chores, but I guess I'm worried about dishes breaking, or her getting cut, etc.). Maybe I'll have to let her have a go at it and see how it goes!
I really enjoy that cookbook as well! Another one of my favorites is the 1950's Betty Crocker. What kind of brand of waffle iron do you have? I have been thinking about getting a new one as mine tends to make thin waffles where I can use the same batter on my sister's and they are wonderful! I made waffles recently though topped with raspberries and whipped cream! Yum!
I love that cookbook too! My sister gave it to me for my wedding almost 9 yrs ago, and I use it all the time.
Looks like you guys are having lots of fun!

Apple, orange, carrot juice sounds yummy! And way to go, Kathrynne, on starting young!
Your family reminds me a lot of my family. My daughter who is three absolutely loves to bake in the kitchen with me. I think her favorite part, though, is washing the dishes in the sink afterwards!
