Anti-Procrastination Week: Day 1
Anti-Procrastination Week is "reality blogging" at its finest--where all superwoman myths are handedly dispelled and you get to see a real look into our lives. Enjoy the ride...
Dressed to the shoes and ready to go! (I detest tennis shoes, but for cleaning our home, they work wonders at keeping me motivated and diligent. Don't ask me why, but this trick I learned from FlyLady really works!)
Time to tackle the messy kitchen. I don't know what it is, but we can never seem to go through a weekend without the kitchen looking something like this on Monday morning. And a messy kitchen just makes the whole house feel messy to me!
Progress after 30 minutes of work and multiple interruptions.
And finally, after another 30 minutes of work--finished! Much better. (If only I had curtains on the windows--that's something I've been procrastinating on for way too long!)
Next I made out the menu for this week. I had failed to do this on Saturday, so I wanted to get this done as it is extremely helpful for me to have a complete menu written out for the week and stuck in my planner.
We then whipped up a batch of our favorite homemade bread (recipe here and also in our ebook Fresh-From-The-Oven Favorites).
And while I was working on all that, Kathrynne and Kaitlynn worked on this...
Yep, they had brought the mop, brooms, dust pan and more out to the living room and "re-arranged" everything. At least they were trying to be productive!
After we had cleaned up the living room, we all sat down for a snack of tea and chocolate cake.
I didn't really tackle many projects outside of the normal yesterday, so I suppose it wasn't much of an "Anti-Procrastination Day" but our home was much cleaner by the time Jesse arrived home, dinner was on the table, and I wasn't feeling frazzled. These days, having those three things happen in one evening is a big accomplishment!

Good for you! I didn't take pictures, but progress was made. We recently painted our room, but it's a two week process to get it all put back where it goes!
Your before picture looks like my after! I guess I need to start on the kitchen before 9:30 pm hmm?
Congrats on accomplishing so much. I think I need to join in your anti-procrastination week.
Hi Crystal,
I was wondering where you got your weekly menu page from. I've been looking for one like that that has enough space to write in!

Crystal, if you are looking for pretty and frugal ideas for your curtains, you could check out nestingplacenc.blogspot.com
She did a great valance for her sister's kitchen window and has how-to posts on different window treatment ideas. I found her blog via Merchant Ships a while back.
On a separate note, I agree with you about the kitchen affecting how you feel about the whole house. I'm trying to get the kitchen and kitchen floor very clean and vacuum the dining room every night, because it helps my morning feel easier and because the ants are out now and love to hang out under the highchair where Jack drops his crumbs - gross!
I'm impressed! By the way, we have the exact same booster seat, and slipcovers! :) Do you have any tips for keeping your slipcovers looking neat? Ours ended up all over the place so I took them off... :(
During some seasons of motherhood maintaining the basics seems like such a celebrated thing, as it should be. Good for you for having cake and tea! It really was "anti-procrastination" in that you didn't put it off until today, or tomorrow :0) I am tackling my list of "put-offs" a little at a time and it is going much quicker than I expected...hooray!
I love it, Crystal!!! Thanks so much for 'keeping it real'! :) You did a great job and that chocolate cake looks really scrumptious! :)

Congratulations on a successful day! You are an inspiration - thank you for sharing, as always.
You have such neat handwriting! (I scribble like a doctor LOL) I worked on the pile of papers on my kitchen counter. Got rid of a lot of stuff. Way to go!
Crystal,
Nice job! You have pretty handwriting.
I read more about the ELF makeup and saw many negative reviews on epinions...so I updated my post about the deal and advised not ordering. I was hopefully able to cancel my order. We'll see.
I am so with you on the tennis shoe thing. I move SO SLOWLY without shoes on my feet. I taught myself to take off my shoes and walk about the house as a reward for cleaning.
Yes, I too was wondering about your weekly menu page. Mine are bigger sheets and the small size would be nice.
Yay for you! When you have little ones, it's important to celebrate the progress because it's so easy to get bogged down and discouraged otherwise.
Crystal,
I just wanted to let you know (in case you hadn't heard), that Marilyn Moll's (The Urban Homemaker) husband Duane passed away sunday. I wasn't sure if you knew her, but thought I'd pass along the news. I posted about it on my blog with the address where cards can be mailed.
Hugs & blessings!
Susan
I completely agree I've been putting off some things myself lately, it's nice to actually get it done! thanks for posting!

Isn't it strange how you can have the cleanest house ever, but if your kitchen isn't 'in order,' it spoils everything else? I guess that's because the kitchen is the 'heart of the home.'
You have a really pretty house. I don't think it was all that messy to begin with, but boy, it's like a magazine article 'after.'
Wish I was your neighbor. I'd make you curtains!
Crystal - It is funny you should mention the curtains. I've been meaning to put some up in my house for about 3 years now! We just finally got started and have been hanging them up! Let me encourage you, it makes the house look finished finally!
Your home looks wonderful! Doesn't it feel so good when it's nice and tidy like that?
Crystal, you don't have to put much effort into a window treatment. (I am not super creative here myself.) Even a small valance on top would add to your kitchen, or just a set of cafe curtains. You could even drape some fabric over a rod. I think your home is wonderful though and I always love looking at the uncluttered simplicity of it.
And yes, you have wonderfully neat handwriting! You are always an inspiration to me.
You're tidying up job looks great! I too used to have slip covers, and oh how I disliked them. They were really pretty, but horrible to keep on, especially with three dogs, which is why we got them. So I said enough, and we went out and bought a leather couch and loveseat, in the color red:) The big dogs are allowed on this, and so far no problems with it. It's nice that it doesn't get a doggie smell like upholstry does. Will be taking the slip covers to the Goodwill!

Could you share your Broccoli and Cheddar Crepes recipe with us? I saw it on your menu plan and it sounds so yummy!
Thanks,
Katie
I wanted to thank you for posting on the ebook special below. I have some of these for awhile, but couldn't justify the expense. Now, I can finally have them! =)
Jenn
Suzie M: I got it from HisGraceWorks.com.
Catherine: Thanks so much for the link! I added her to my Bloglines and have already been quite inspired by quickly perusing her blog!
Christie: My best advice is just to straighten them at least once or twice per day. I can't stand them being all messed-up!
